American Express Business Green Card No Longer Waives First Annual Fee

Update 2/13/23: Referral links with $0 annual fee are dead now as well.

Original Post 1/24/23:

The American Express Business Green card has a $95 annual fee. The fee used to be waived for the first year, but that’s now changed and the $95 is no longer showing as waived at signup. Referral links are still showing the first year waiver. Let’s hope that lasts.

I’m not going to lie… I got the card to churn. I got the card December 2022 during the first year annual fee waived and 25,000 points offer. But, the card is worse than basic. I guess if you want another No Preset Spending Limit for your business that would be a benefit. That being said, I wonder if they are going to give this card a little more value in the future?

I keep waiting for this card to be refreshed to something that’s actually worth applying for…

Of course, don’t get this over Chase Ink Biz but get it on top of that top. It’s still easy free 25K MR points, just cancel after 1st year.

Exactly. I was offered 25K and I just opened 3 Chase cards in Nov and Dec and tried to get additional ones and got declined. So I am just going to put my everday sending for the next momths in this one and another card I opened just to get some bonus while doing the spending. After that I’ll stop using the card.

I am now a bit extra pleased that I decided to spend my Biz Green bonus voucher (once-per-“lifetime” SUB) in 2022. Not related, but I don’t like embossed cards so this card looks a bit outdated to me.

You’ll like it in Costa Rica where they only accept embossed cards.

It’s a referral that:

1) has credit no inquiry
2) doesn’t affect 5/24
3) doesn’t show up on your credit report at all

Some people have been known to sign up for several of these a year…

what about the BBP etc?

Green is a charge card; BBP is credit. AmEx limits you to 5 credit cards, but 10 charge cards.

The value is the referral, not the SUB.

Signing up for this card doesn’t require a hard pull?

Amex rarely pulls credit for existing cardholders.

Surely not what Amex has in mind right? Hard to see who they are targeting here.
