American Express Delta New Signup Bonuses on Personal & Business Cards (Reserve, Platinum, Gold Versions)

The Offer

American Express changed the signup bonuses on the Delta lineup. These offers aren’t necessarily good, more on that below.

Personal offers:

• Delta Gold:
  • Earn 30,000 bonus miles after you make $1,000 in purchases on your new Card in your first 3 months.
  • Receive 50% back in the form of statement credits on purchases made directly with Delta with your Gold Delta SkyMiles Credit Card within the first 3 months of Card Membership, up to $300 back.
  • Offer Via Referral: Earn 40,000 bonus miles after you spend $1,000 in purchases on your new Card within your first 3 months and a $50 statement credit after you make a Delta purchase with your new Card within your first 3 months.
• Platinum Delta:
  • Earn 50,000 bonus miles after you make $3,000 in purchases on your new Card in your first 3 months.
  • Receive 50% back in the form of statement credits on purchases made directly with Delta with your Gold Delta SkyMiles Credit Card within the first 3 months of Card Membership, up to $500 back.
  • Offer via referral: Earn 50,000 bonus miles after you spend $1,000 in purchases on your new Card within your first 3 months and a $100 statement credit after you make a Delta purchase with your new Card within your first 3 months.
• Delta Reserve:
  • 75,000 miles + 5,000 MQM after spending $5,000 in purchases on your new Card in your first 3 months.
  • Offer via referral: Earn 40,000 bonus miles and 10,000 Medallion^® Qualification Miles (MQMs) after you spend $3,000 in purchases on your new Card in your first 3 months.^†

Business offers:

• Delta Gold:
  • Earn 30,000 bonus miles after you make $1,000 in purchases on your new Card in your first 3 months.
  • Receive 50% back in the form of statement credits on purchases made directly with Delta with your Gold Delta SkyMiles Credit Card within the first 3 months of Card Membership, up to $300 back.

  • Earn 50,000 bonus miles after you make $3,000 in purchases on your new Card in your first 3 months.
  • Receive 50% back in the form of statement credits on purchases made directly with Delta with your Gold Delta SkyMiles Credit Card within the first 3 months of Card Membership, up to $500 back.
• Delta Reserve:
  • 40,000 miles + 10,000 MQM after spending $3,000 in purchases on your new Card in your first 3 months.

The Fine Print

• These offers are set to expire on August 15, 2019.

 

Our Verdict

The biggest negative change here is the lower number of points and lack of an easy statement credit, but that’s counteracted with the increased statement credit offer of either $300 or $500 on the Gold or Platinum card. Note, however, the statement credit is only to offset Delta purchases, and it’s only a 50% credit.

If you don’t spend much on cash flights from Delta, these offers are much worse than prior offers. Someone who anyway spends a lot on cash flights or gift cards from Delta might find these more interesting, though there’s still the tradeoff using this bonus of lower signup bonus miles to get the $300 or $500 statement credit offer.

The Reserve offers are really just a negative change with the personal card removing the $100 statement credit that existed on the prior offer which just expired, and the business card significantly lowering the bonus from 80k to 40k.

Looks like the referral offers have changed today, as well. Added those above. The business referral links are errroring out, not sure what’s going on there.
