American Express now allows all cardmembers to refer a friend to an Amex card, even those cards which previously weren’t part of Amex referral program, e.g. Schwab and Ameriprise Platinum cardholders and OBC cardholders. The referrer gets $100 per referral with a max $550 per year in referral earnings (6 referrals). It’s showing an end date of 4/16/20.
You can not signup for a Schwab/ Ameriprise/ OBC/ etc using a referral link – those cards don’t show up in the list of eligible cards. But if you have a Schwab/Ameriprise/OBC/etc card you can refer others to the regular Amex cards like Everyday, SPG, Platinum, etc.
Important: Being that Amex now allows you to refer cross-refer from one card to another, you probably shouldn’t be using the Schwab/ Ameriprise/ OBC/ etc referral link to refer a friend. Using that link, the new member can signup for any of the regular Amex cards and you’ll get $100. But if you have a Platinum or Blue Business+ card, you can refer a friend to any of the regular Amex cards and get 15,000 points, which is undoubtedly worth more than $100. Gold, Green, and Everyday cards have a 10,000 points bonus which is also worth more than $100 to a lot of people.
Still, if you maxed out your other referrals or you don’t have a card with a better referral program, $100 bonus is nice. It’s even more than the $75 offered for the Blue Cash cards.
