American Express has opened a new lounge at Melbourne Airport (MEL), next door Plaza Premium has also opened a lounge. It seems that Plaza Premium is basically managing the American Express lounge and the two lounges share some facilities (toilets, kitchen). This is a similar arrangement they have in place for the Sydney version of the lounge as well. Additional information:
- Complimentary food, prepared by Chef Kalesh Kamal, and beverages featuring barista service
- Lounge will be open 6 AM to 11 PM seven days a week
- Located in Terminal 2 (international), Satellite Depatures
- Lounge seats 65 people
- More photos can be found here
American Express Platinum/Centurion cardholders will be able to access the American Express lounge and Priority Pass members are able to access the Plaza Premium Lounge. Priority Pass members can currently get a $36 credit for themselves and their guests at three restaurants. I typically find the food at those restaurants to be of better quality than lounges, but having the space to work at a lounge can often be useful as well.
