Chase Doing Automatic Product Change For Some Original Freedom Cardholders to Freedom Unlimited

Chase is automatically product changing some OG Freedom cardholders (“Freedom with Ultimate Rewards”) to Freedom Unlimited cards, per Reddit reports.

This has happened in the past. Some people will prefer keeping the 5% categories instead of getting the Freedom Unlimited’s 1.5% everywhere. You should be able to call in and have them change your Freedom Visa card to a Freedom Flex Mastercard instead.

Your card is being upgraded to Chase Freedom Unlimited. We’re upgrading your Freedom card to Freedom Unlimited Visa Signature to bring you unlimited cash back potential. Your upgrade will happen automatically.
While you will no longer earn 5% cash back in rotating bonus categories each quarter after your upgrade, you will enjoy more ways to earn unlimited cash back on all purchases, with no activation required.
Your upgrade will happen by November 20, 2026. Until then, keep using your old card. Your mobile wallet will update automatically and your new physical card is on the way. Your new card has the same account number as the old one, but your expiration date and CVV may be different. Your current rewards will transfer automatically.
Thank you for being a Chase cardmember.
