American Express: Refer-A-Friend, Get Bonus 5x Points/ 5% Cashback on up to $25,000 in Restaurant Spend

The Offer

Check your American Express login (here) for the following offer:

  • Refer a friend to signup for a new American Express card and get an extra 5x Membership Rewards points per dollar you spend on the referring card, up to $25,000 in restaurant spend (100,000 bonus points).
  • Refer a friend to signup for a new American Express card and get an extra 5% bonus cash back on the referring card, up to $25,000 in spend ($1,000 bonus).

Our Verdict

This is in addition to what you’d normally earn for the referral. Unfortunately this is only on restaurant spend rather than all spend like the previous 4x offer. Remember, you can use a referral link from ANY of your cards to refer a friend to ANY Amex card they want to sign up for, so plan carefully which card you want to receive the 5x/5% back on. Please do not share any of your referrals in the comments below, if you do they will be deleted and any other referrals you have on the site will be removed as well.

Hi William, can you open a page for people to share their referral link?
Amex now has 150k open bonus for platinum through referral, and some people has the strong link that generate 150k 100%.
Thank you

It’s an interesting offer and I received it on both my personal Au and Pt cards. The problem for me is that $25K in restaurant spend is little steep.

Probably a more general question than for this offer but my wife has the 30K plus 5% restaurants referral for her Gold card. However Amex has me in popup jail and won’t let me apply for any new bonuses. Could she just refer me to some no annual fee card where I don’t even get the bonus and still get the 30K referral?

I have vanilla platinum card, Delta platinum card and Hilton Honors card. I can only generate a referral for the Hilton card. My wife has Rose Gold card, Delta platinum card and Hilton Honors card. She can only generate a referral for the Hilton card. Very annoying.

The home improvement offer from a year ago was much better. Lowe’s sells lots of useful gift cards.

I still have the extra 9x on my Platinum from the sub. So, if I can get a referral, I’ll get 1 + 9 + 5? That’ would be wild.

1. The bonus applies ONLY to U.S. restaurants. Don’t expect it outside the U.S.
2. Under this offer, the friend’s sign-up offer is not as juicy as other publicly available sign-up offers. As much as this is juicy for the referring card holder, what’s best for the friend?

There is an offer for the person signing up for the Gold cards for 60,000 plus 20% off of restaurants for a year (up to $250 back) on the referral. That is not too shabby of an offer.

Except there is currently a 90k + 20% referral offer. If you have that you don’t need to be the d-bag who screws over his friend so you can get a referral.
