American Express WeWork Benefit Replaced With 25% Discount

Update 1/7/21: WeWork has also sent out an exclusive offer to previous customers offering:

  • Free private office through February 2021
  • Special promotional pricing

Update 1/5/21: Now showing up on Business Platinum cards.

In 2019 American Express added a free WeWork membership as a benefit for Business Platinum cardholders, that was then extended until the end of 2020 for anybody who was already enrolled. American Express told cardholders that called to ask that this wouldn’t be extended again for 2021 but would be replaced with an ‘exciting’ offer instead.

An offer is now live for 25% back on WeWork AllAccess memberships. Interestingly that offer doesn’t seem to be showing up on business platinum cards, but other business cards. It’s possible an even better/bigger discount will come along for business platinum cards so I’d hold off for now.

I do appreciate the private office for a month or so, but haven’t seen this email come through. Anyone else seeing that offer besides the 25% on your AmEx account?

Anyone’s getting a free extension again?! I’m actually very surprised how they don’t really try to up-sell that much; very few emails in general from the corporate during the membership as well; just the weekly chit-chat from the local team mostly. They didn’t even seem to have informed anyone when the 18:00 closing times were switched to 17:00 sometime in the summer 2020.

So, the MSRP is $299/mo now? I think Global Access used to be $350/mo in those invoices they were sending for Biz Plat where it was discounted down to $0 in the end.

Given that they’re giving All Access for free to any all Hot Desk members until June 30, 2021, it may actually be cheaper to get a Hot Desk, depending on your market. I see some Hot Desk going for $290/month in one market, for example, I think some markets are even cheaper (just found one at $190!), and I imagine those still include 24/7 access with a separate access card for the building as well (unlike All Access, which may not even get you in some buildings or floors at all), and also ability to add Mail and Package for an extra $50/month.

I’m actually surprised they’ve cancelled Biz Plat benefit in the middle of COVID19. They could have waited one more year, and at least had the potential to get higher signups from the momentum and piggy-back on the withdrawals from nitro cold brew. Which of their existing membership based from Biz Plat will signup now?

75% of $299 is $224; not really a good deal, IMHO, when some markets are already going cheaper for a 24/7 hot desk.

P.S. BTW, I think they’ve also reduced the business hours to end at 17:00 now, in place of 18:00, sometime in the summer of 2020, so, your All Access card will stop working like 1h sooner.

Between all the offers that are appearing on the Personal Platinum and the $30 monthly PayPal benefit, I’m deeply regretting choosing the Business Platinum over it.

I’m hoping for something more substantial to drop on Business Platinum soon, otherwise last year’s renewal will be my last.

I feel pretty confident that they’ll juice the benefits of the Business Platinum soon.

Got it on my business gold card, not on my business platinum. I really wish they had extended the free year to a point in which I could actually use the benefit as I got it toward the end of 2019. I was planning on doing a lot of business travel in 2020 which was replaced with zoom meetings. It was a big reason I opened the card in the first place. Then again, I would have been happy with just keeping the double Dell credit. There’s still a few more BOSE items on my wish list for my home and office.

Anyone still using WeWork hot desks in the middle of COVID19? The local team was sending notices that masks are required everywhere outside of private offices at all times; including kitchen when you’re not eating; if you follow that, it means you can’t even sit in a public area on a floor all by yourself without a mask. Of course, people don’t necessarily follow that, but having that as an official communication from the immediate local team kinda makes it a bigger deal than just the signs noone pays any attention to.
