Amex Offers: 10% off Cable or Satellite Bill, up to $30 [Targeted]

The Offer

There’s a targeted Amex offer now showing in some Amex accounts:

  • Get 10% of your online payment back as a statement credit each time you use your enrolled Card to pay your Cable or Satellite television bill by 1/31/2017
  • Max $30 back

The Fine Print

  • Expires January 31, 2017
  • Offer valid on bill payments for cable and satellite television services made directly with the provider; payments can be made directly with the provider online, via mobile app, by phone, or by mail
  • Payments for hardware and installation services, if included on the monthly service bill, are included
  • Payments made at service centers do not qualify
  • Excludes payments for satellite radio services

Our Verdict

10% is pretty good, and you can usually prepay for future bills as well. Seems to be a highly targeted offer.

Keep in mind that you might usually get 5x with INK when paying your cable, so 10% isn’t necessarily that much better.

There’s also a $50 off $150 on AT&T business wireless going on now. And check out these 14 Things to Know about Amex Offers Deals.

Is the Bluebird by American Express eligible? I could call and ask them but maybe somebody already has the answer.

I’m not able to check my accounts now, but my SPG AMEX Business has the $150/50 for ATT. If I get it on that card, I assume I’ll be able to double dip?

Sling TV + Roku + Antenna. I have all the TV entertainment I need for less than $20/month. No need for expensive $100 cable or satellite plans. This is no deal at all as you’re already paying too much!

Where do you see that this deal is valid on cable internet too?

Nowhere, but I would imagine that not many companies that provide cable internet don’t also provide cable television. There’s no distinction in the system as far as American Express is concerned whether you’re paying a TV or Internet bill. Just paid this month’s cable internet bill and got the email saying I’ll be getting a credit for it. I don’t have Cable TV, just internet.

Sling TV is $20 plus tax, plus the cost for the internet. I got a AMEX $5 credit offer for Sling on my AMEX Blue Everyday card, and on my AMEX Serve prepaid card.

Saw this post and grumbled to myself as I went to logon and check my cards that I never get targeted for these, ever. Low and behold it was on all of my Old Blue Cash including AU’s under two different logons. Checked my wife’s accounts, nada. That means it is 100% targeted by SSN and presumably what demographic marketing intel they have on that person regardless of their spending history with amex or who the primary cardholder is. There is clearly a pattern, but I could hardly hypothesize what they’re targeting based on these data points.

Not on my account, but on one of my wife’s cards. She didn’t see it on both cards – is it possible it is only targeted to one card?

Yes that’s possible, but remember to check all cards (using separate tabs makes it easier to add offers later) before adding the offer. If more than one card was targeted but then you add the offer to any one of your cards, the offer will no longer show up or be available for adding on any of the other cards that were targeted if the offers page wasn’t already open for those other cards. This behavior implies that Amex offers are intended to be once per account, but you can get around this with the separate tabs.

That’s why it’s commonly recommended to open a separate tab per card for adding offers that you want to use more than once, and then adding the offer to all targeted cards at once.
