[Expired] Amex Offers: Save 10% on your Cell Phone Bill (max $20)

Deal has expired, view more AmEx offers here.

The Offer

Check your Amex logins for the following highly targeted offer:

  • Get 10% back as a statement credit when you use a registered Amex card to pay your cell phone bill online directly with a US-based wireless telephone provider. Limit of $20 in total credits.

There’s also said to be a similar offer showing on some points-earning cards which give points instead of a statement credit.

The Fine Print

  • Offer valid through August 31, 2018
  • Offer can be used in a single charge or across multiple charges
  • Offer valid for payments for wireless telephone service charges made directly with US wireless telephone service providers (via online, mobile app, or by phone). Purchases made with third parties, authorized retailers or resellers are excluded.
  • Excludes purchases for VoIP, hardware, equipment, and bundled home/cable services.

Our Verdict

This offer is highly targeted, and I didn’t have any luck on this.

Typically, when Amex releases these offers, they specify which wireless carriers will work for this offer (the major carriers). It’s interesting that this time they are allowing any carrier. In previous offers, the Amex deal was triggered even when paying an AT&T or Verizon cable bill as well. It’s quite possible it’ll work this time as well (despite the terms), but it might be different this time due to the dissimilar offer details mentioned.

Remember that most cellular companies will allow you to prepay your bill which means you can lock in the 10% discount for the future.

They had this same deal last year (https://www.doctorofcredit.com/targeted-amex-offers-get-10-back-cashpoints-cell-phone-bills/) but it only applied to certain cell phone carriers, excluding prepaid. The disclaimer doesn’t mention those limitations this time. Can anybody confirm that they received the credit for a prepaid carrier?

Answering my own question…I tried it with Cricket Wireless (prepaid carrier) and got the 10% credit.

I got a similar offer- 10% off, 10$ max- when adding a amex gold card to online account.

Is this a one time 10% off (assuming you have a 100$ bill), or do you get it ongoing?

It’s 10% off, up to a $10 maximum. Can be used multiple times, but you can only get $10 back total.

In the past I’ve used these kinds of Amex offers to pay my AT&T Internet bill and it always worked, with the offers triggering and posting to my Amex account. This time it doesn’t seem to work though – I paid my AT&T Internet bill on a card with this offer about 10 days ago, the charge posted 8 days ago, and I have not received the Amex offer yet. So I’m guessing that loophole is now dead.

This worked when buying a router from TMo website last time around. Though it did not generate the email and no credit applied within 10 days of shipping as is the normal case, the credit came on the last day of the offer as a pleasant surprise.

0/2 for me, just 50 different offers for obscure fashion, fashion accessory and wine websites.

Amex, I’m flattered that you think I’m a chic wine connoisseur, but have you noticed that I only use the offers for budgety places like Olive Garden and Chewy?
