The Offer

A new offer is popping up in Amex logins, and this one has a Twitter hashtag as well #Amextravel100.

  • Get a one-time $100 statement credit by using your registered Card to make a single purchase of $600 or more for a prepaid hotel booking at AmexTravel.com by 3/15/16. Excludes the Fine Hotels & Resorts.

The Fine Print

  • Online at Amextravel.com only
  • Not valid on Fine Hotels & Resorts, Cars, Cruises and the flight portion when booking flight+ hotel together
  • Statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after 3/15/2016

Our Verdict

I’m not sure how the rates are when booking through Amex Travel, if it’s similar to booking direct or via one of the regular aggregation sites, this is a nice discount for a long or expensive stay.

Bear in mind that some also have a targeted offer for $50 off $250 or $25 off $100 at any hotel; if you have that one, it may trump this offer depending on the booking.

Twitter is Working

Also want to point out that today, again, the Twitter method seems to be working fine today, and the previous glitches are gone, see Cautiously Optimistic that Amex Offers Are Back to Normal.

Time to set back up the automated system with IFTTT or Twitterfeed or whichever system you use.

Has anyone tried booking a stay and cancelling after the 100 credit is posted? Would this work?

This accidentally happened to me, I did not seek this conclusion out. It has been numerous months (not quite a year) since the credit was applied and has not been replied. The AmexTravel deal required paying upfront for the reservation which I did not know at the time of booking. The hotel expense was large (for a bachelor party trip) which was several months away and I did not want to float it or seek out money from everyone way ahead of time. I cancelled the booking and went through another portal to get same/better price plus cash back (I think it was 2x CB on Ebates at the time). For some reason the credit posted and has yet to be taken back.

Thanks. Do you remember how soon the credit was posted after you made the booking?

Ha, I didn’t notice we were both Wills. I got the $100 Amex Offer email confirmation within minutes after my booking through the AmexTravel, but I don’t remember when it actually posted to my account.

@nobody Did the manager specifically say Orbitz or were they suggesting any of the online 3rd party booking services? That does seem odd.

Yes, the manager said it showed up in their system as ‘booked through Orbitz’ specifically.

Be cautious. Last time I booked through this amex offer, when I checked in the manager said I booked through Orbitz(wtf?) and thus not eligible for hotel points/stays.

That doesn’t make sense. You get the credit from Amex billing, not from the hotel. The requirement is you have to book through AmexTravel.com. If you did that, it doesn’t matter if they use Orbitz or not to actually book your reservation. You should get the credit. Always call Amex for stuff like this. They usually straighten these things out.

@farsighted he is not talking about Amex credit. He is talking about hotel loyalty points.

I did not think you ever get hotel rewards points when you book through any third-party travel site (Orbitz, AmEx Travel, Priceline, etc). What hotel chains allow this?
