Applied for INK at a Lower Bonus? Get Matched the 70,000 & 30,000 Offers

If you recently applied for the Chase INK Plus or INK Cash cards with a 60k/$200 bonus, you should be able to get a match for the current bonus offer of 70,000 points and $300, respectively.

If you get a Chase credit card and the bonus is subsequently raised, Chase is known to be willing to match the higher signup bonus upon request.

Rules

There are two rules to keep in mind about this matching policy:

  • The new offer has to be publicly available offer or an offer you received yourself
  • It has to be within 90 days of when you were approved for the card (or, perhaps, 90 days from the application date)

In our case, it’s not entirely clear that these offers can be matched since the 70k/$300 bonus offers are in-branch only and aren’t available online. Still, being that this is a public offer which is available in-branch, lots of us are having success getting the 70k offer matched upon request. Send a secure message to request the match. If they won’t do the match, try again with another rep or try calling in; many people have had success with some persistence.

You can also include an attachment to your Chase Secure Message; attach a picture of the flyer with the 70k/$300 offer. Here are some images of the flyer that were uploaded to Imgur by a helpful Reddit member.

Chase told this Reddit member that on April 27, they revised their decision and agreed to match offers. It’s likely that many who had difficulty getting a match were from the earlier group before they made this change or before the reps got used to the change.

Let me share that upon the recent feedback received from new customers like you, about the new 70,000 bonus points sign up bonus offer, we have decided to revise our decision since April 27, 2016. Hence, we will be authorizing the offer on your account ending in XXXX, where you would earn 70,000 bonus points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months after account opening

Matching the Annual Fee Wavier

The new INK Plus offer has two advantages over the standard offer: it’s 10k higher and it gets the annual fee waived for the first year. While there’s a high success rate on getting the extra 10k bonus, it’s doubtful that you’ll be able to get the annual fee waived.

It’s possible that with much more intervention and escalation that can be done as well, but it will be especially difficult since the annual-fee-waiver doesn’t show clearly on the flyers that are circulating.

New Applicants

We noted in the previous post that some people may opt to simply apply online for the 60k offer and get the 70k offer matched to save the trouble of going into a branch.

Note that there’s always a chance that they won’t agree to the match for some reason, and also you’ll be paying an extra $95 for the first year’s annual fee by going the online/get-a-match route. However, if you have a friend or family member with a referral link, they’ll get a 10k bonus for referring you, and that can counterbalance the annual fee, in a way.

Any advice to those with no business history? I’ve gotten business cards from Chase in the past, but got grilled pretty hard by Chase last time.

Got matched few days ago. didn’t ask about the annual fee refund. I am happy with them giving me 10k extra. I applied Ink originally in Feb.

Any chance for honoring this for applications done more than 90 days back? I applied for INK+ in December, so its more like 4 1/2 months. Wrote a SM to Chase, but they say its more than 90 days. Any chance of success if I keep insisting?

See my response below, although I was much closer to the 90 day expiration than you were. It can’t hurt to send a SM and after being denied, request that it be escalated by a supervisor as a goodwill gesture on Chase’s part.

I received the 10k but it required back-and-forth and was finally given by a senior specialist. I thought I wasn’t going to be granted the 10k because, based on my approval date, it had been 88 days when I sent my initial SM on 4/27 and their response was that I was outside of the 90 day window.

After requesting this be escalated and (politely) challenging that I was within the 90 day rule, a senior rep wrote:

“The previous response provided was correct. You opened
1/23/2016 and had 90 days to request the new premium
(4/22/2016). Unfortunately you request did not fall within
our banks policy. ”

This rep did in fact grant me the 10k as a courtesy so in the end I technically did get it but it was not through chase policy.

The rep based the 90 day rule on my application date and not my approval date, which was 1/26. Based on this experience I’m of the conclusion Chase is basing the 90 day rule on your application date and not approval.

Hello Doc

I got the Chase iNk plus card recently in the past 40 days and got the 60K offer in branch after spending 5K. I have just completed my 5K spend and not yet got the bonus.

My questions is should i wait for the bonus to be credited and then ask for match or just go ahead and ask for the match right now. I am skeptical that they might deny me the extra 10K saying i still havent met the spend limit. Please advise when it makes sense to send a secure message in my case

Hi max,

I also applied recently and have not yet completed the $5k in purchases. I asked to be matched. They said they will match and asked me to send them a message once I complete the $5k spending bonus.

Oh, thank you for this. I got a Chase Cash in Feb. I sent SM and they declined, asked for the offer I received. I uploaded the jpeg from the the Reddit link and voila! 10,000 deposited. I didn’t give an explanation about it being in bank, etc. just uploaded the jpeg.

Matched points no luck longer refund

Paul

That’s no luck on fee refund

Thanks! I got the card on February 5th. Sent a SM last night and was awarded the extra 10,000 this morning.

Success getting the 10k points today, really easy. Didn’t ask for the AF waiver though because the flyer doesn’t say that all, so not sure where the info comes from.
