  • Free first checked bag

Our Verdict

60,000 miles is frequently available, but normally the annual fee is not waived first year. In this case it is waived first year, making this offer particularly attractive. In terms of what to do with the miles:

  • You can get flights for 35,000 miles round trip with the card from mainland USA to Hawaii, but there isn’t a lot of space available.
  • Intra island flights are 7,500 miles one way
  • You can also transfer the miles to Hilton at a rate of 1:1.5 (although I’d say this is a bad use of points) Not currently available
  • They also sell sunglasses (I forget the brand and amount, but seems to be a popular redemption)

As always if you have any questions about Barclays credit cards, read this post first. Keep in mind getting approved for Barclays cards can be extremely difficult (6/24 rule). I will be adding this to our list of the best credit card bonuses.

I was on a Hawaiian flight on July 20, 2021 where they advertised an introductory offer again of no annual fee for the first year. After confirming with the flight attendant I took a couple of the applications with me as I exited and then mailed one in the next week. There was a promo code written on the form. Barclays is not honoring it saying Hawaiian is responsible for promo codes and Hawaiian is saying Barclays runs the credit card applications. Anyone run into this?

I’ve had this card and bonus several times already. T&C now says you may not be eligible if you previously had card before. I believe this was added a couple years ago in 2019 or earlier. Do you know if this card can still be churned?

Has Hawaain miles to HH points conversion been enabled again? I thought it has been suspended since mid 2020

Why is Hawaiian -> Hilton Honors a bad use of points? If anything converting 60k Hawaiian to 90k HH seems to be the best use of Hawaiian miles considering their poor award chart and award availability.

I guess you don’t know the valuation of Hilton points . Most standard room at most Hilton that cost around $100 a night cash price cost 70000 to 120000 points a night . Some may paint a rosy picture and example of of one or two fair redemption value but generally Hilton pints are the most devalued points . So even if you convert the pints to Hilton for 90000 points a night it is only valid for one night at 3 to 4 star standard room. Don’t be fooled by numbers .

I agree that HH doesn’t usually offer the best value per point. But $100 for 70-120k is unreal. It shouldn’t be hard to find a 0.4-0.5c/point at most popular travel destinations. And if you’re someone eyeing properties like WA Maldives, Grand Wailea, etc. you could easily get 1c/point valuation. Either way I could expect at least $400-500 value out of 90k HH, while 60k Hawaiian won’t even get a one-way economy ticket from east coast to Hawaii.

Jim what on earth are you talking about… It’s easy to get 0.5 cents out of Hilton points, and there are opportunities to get 1+ cents during peak times.

Instant denial. I guess I’m still blacklisted by Barclays.
No biggie as they closed out all redemptions worth something.

Transferring miles to Hilton Honors has been suspended effective 5/1/20. Disappointed as I had 150,000 points to convert to 225,000 Hilton points.

Doc Newsletter stated: “Barclays is offering 60,000 miles on the Hawaiian card with no annual fee.” The detail should be corrected to state that the first annual fee is “waived.”
