Barclays Uber Card To Be Discontinued, Replaced With Barclays View Card

Barclays has sent out a letter to Uber cardholders stating that the card will be discontinued on October 22, 2021. Cardholders will be product changed to the Barclays View card that offers the following earning rate:

  • 3x points per $1 spent on Dining
  • 2x points per $1 spent on streaming, internet, phone & TV
  • 2x points per $1 spent on grocery
  • 1x points per $1 spent on all other purchases

Uber cardholders will lose cell phone insurance and no foreign transaction fees as well. Barclays has been consolidating other cobranded cards into the View card as well (Barclays with Apple Rewards & Barclays Financing). It’s unclear if Uber will partner with another card issuer or exit the co-branded marketplace.

Has anyone gotten their new card yet? I’m without a 3% dining card until I get this card inhand. I don’t understand the hate for this new card either…it puts us back to where the original Uber 3% dining was…

Surprised at all the Barclay hate. I did love my Uber card and used it A LOT. Just found out it is being discontinued as well. It sucks but ya know what? It was the ONLY card I had that worked flawlessly overseas as a Chip-and-PIN card. Gas station pumps, etc. would always ask if it was a debit card and it worked whether I entered a PIN or not. Complain if you want, but I will be likely converting to the Jetblue or Wyndham card with no annual and foreign transaction fees so I can still have that.

Yup. The original Uber Visa was fantastic as a 4% cashback dining, but I knew it couldnt last forever.

I also will be holding on to a Barclays card for Chip & PIN, as it is the only easily accessible card brand that offers online/offline Chip & PIN (for online-only Chip & PIN, see BofA). I don’t expect to need it much at all overseas these days, but it is nice to have it as a backup for times when other cards don’t work on a particular kiosk/gas station.

I got slammed twice in one day with cards that will be discontinued; Uber and Orbitz Rewards Visa. I’ve been loyal to Orbitz for years because of their generous rewards. Now I’m lost!

Literally useless now. I got US Bank Alt Go for 4% on dining.

This should be a reminder to everyone to NEVER sign up for barclays cards again. This is my second one, and after the first hit converting the points redemption, I didn’t think it could get much worse. I only used the card for the insurance as of late anyway.

Well, I guess that’s gone too now.

The letter also mentions: “Your Barclays View Mastercard will have a new account number and expiration date.” I wonder whether this will be treated as a new account on our credit reports.

I found further information: “No. Your credit report/score will not be affected by your account number change and card name change.” [from the FAQ section of the Barclays View page]

I’m going to have two worthless View Mastercards… My Apple Visa was discontinued/converted earlier this year to one and now my Uber is suffering the same fate. I’m done with Barclays at this point. As others said, they constantly put out cards with great rewards programs only to nerf or discontinue them shortly after.

I’ve been using this card recently because they have a 0% APR promotion. I sent a secure message asking if the 0% APR will still be active after the product change. Hopefully it is

Will “The View” be a new stand alone card soon and will an incentive follow?

Update: Guess not (credit Points Guy)
