Our Verdict

Best Western describes this as up to 50% off, but the biggest discount is actually 58% off. Some great value to be had here if you have access to Best Western points.

It’s been extended. It’s now through Feb 28.

Though it turns out that availability of the sale rate depends on the hotel and the night.

I’ve run into hotels that have the exact same paid rate and exact same normal award rate on different nights, but only have this sale award rate on certain nights and not others.

In fact, I ran into one hotel which had the 10k rate on a night when its paid rate was dozens of dollars more than on another night when it didn’t have the 10k rate. So SOMETIMES the sale rate on points is available only when the paid rate goes up!

Not quite through Feb 6 necessarily. One hotel I checked is 20000 through the first couple days of February, but then jumps to 32000 starting Feb 3 (checkout Feb 4).

I guess I should have bought a few points in the Daily Getaways promo. The problem was that their regular redemption prices were almost no discount at all. I assume there are no transfer partners or other ways to get points at a cheap price?

Seems like they do easy status match…the problem is no transfer partners and only 2 CCs from first national bank of omaha or something like that

The Strat in Las Vegas is showing base level rooms at 5k points and “nicer” rooms at 10k. I thought that was an interesting data point.

Still on the hook for the ~$40 resort fee + tax, not waived by any BW status, right? I’m seeing cash rate of $17 on some 5k nights, I’d pay cash if you still have to pay resort fee.

I like best western don’t get me wrong… some of their properties are amazing…. However, the problem with best western is the quality of their hotels are all over the place… you really have to research the property prior to booking as lot of their hotels are duds. Most if not all of them are franchised. The brand is dragging behind due to a lot of their operators running their individual hotels to the ground.

I have the free version but I rarely use it. Unlike the Barclay’s predecessor (which was the original BW credit card I had) which earned I think 5 points per dollar on BW stays, this one only earns 3 points per dollar on BW stays, so it’s not really worth using it for me, except when they do occasional double points promos. When it was the Barclays version and earned more, I used to use that card regularly for BW stays.

But I got converted from the Barclays card to the new card.

I tried applying a couple years ago for the business BW card from FNBO and it was the first time I was ever declined for a business card. I’ve never tried applying for any personal BW card from FNBO.

I have no interest in paying an annual fee for the slightly higher-earning personal BW card from FNBO.

FNBO’s (First National Bank of Omaha) slogan should be, “We say No… Even when others say Yes!”.

Hard to believe, but I think FNBO’s customer service is worse than Citibank.

I did – was at 5/24 and 2/12 at the time. Good credit, never carry a balance. Not the best card or bonus due to limited places I’d use BW… but I’ll certainly a try sign up bonus if I have planned spend ahead if I think I’ll get $500+ out of it. Probably collect the year 2 bonus with annual fee and cancel before year 3.

Was denied the Cap1 Venture card (again) before I applied for the BW.
