I think they charge when you check in or check out.

The card used at time of booking is just used as a sort of deposit to hold the room. At the properties I’ve done in the past, you can change the payment method later. In the past I would tell them at checkin that I want to use gift cards, and then they tell me they can run them at checkout. I give them the cards/printouts the night before checkout to run in the morning. I tell them not to run any credit cards until I see them in the morning to take care of any remaining balance. I only buy enough gift cards for upcoming stay to leave a small balance leftover to pay with my CC. It works well for me because I have a July 4th spot I like to go to most years with a BW that I use. I’ve been able to utilize this deal like 3-4 times.

Does purchase of these gift cards code as “Travel” for credit card points purposes?

Did you try the link? Once you select the currency you want to buy the travel card in, it goes to givex.com, so it probably doesn’t count as travel, since Givex is a gift card platform, not a travel platform.

My Chase Ink card categorized it that way, fwiw. I didn’t use a card that earns a travel category bonus so not sure if it would work. It kinda seems that way unless maybe Chase categorized it based on Best Western being in the name:

Description
Givex* Best Western – Uni
Merchant type
Lodging: hotels, motels and resorts
Method
Online, mail or phone

I tried to give you guys a data point from a Citi Custom Cash. I tried to put an order through, Citi asked for a authentication code during checkout, I put it in but then the order still gave me an error. Now I have a pending charge but no gift cards. Now I gotta wait to make sure that pending order doesn’t post. But the pending charge does kinda look promising on Citi side too. It says Merchant Givex, but it says Hotels/Motels/etc. for category.

Spend Category
Hotels, Motels, Resorts Lodging

So my charge on Custom Cash did post (they gave me an offsetting credit since the order failed) and code as “Spend Category
Hotels, Motels, Resorts Lodging” and gave me the 5% Select Travel rewards category.

Can I buy a single $1000 or has to be 5x $200 to trigger 5 bonuses?

Would this $200/$50 deal stack with this deal:
Stay 2 Nights and Get A $50 Best Western® Gift Card. https://www.bestwestern.com/en_US/offers/hotel-discounts/special-offer/rewardsrush2.html

So can I buy five of the $200 gift cards, use the five (or fewer) bonus $50 cards to pay for the Stay 2 nights and get another $50 gift card?

Since nothing in T&Cs of the “stay 2 night sand get a $50 BW gift card” says any particular way of paying is required, just that it has to be a rate that earns points, you should be able to pay for those 2 or 4 stays with any BW gift cards, in whole or in part.

Can one user a Bonus card for pre-paid stay which is past November 30 ? Also anyone knows if this will trigger AMEX offer ?

Unsure (but I lean towards it not since the link leads to a website Givex.com and all support numbers are Givex’s, 833-632-0867, not Best Western). I have the $20 off $100 AMEX offer on P1 and P2 accounts.

To the first question: No, you have present the Bonus card upon checking in, just like you have to present a credit card during check-in, which requires that stay be before November 30. And I said “before” instead of “before or on”, because sometimes they don’t process the gift card until the following morning.

And I agree with TDD about givex.com making it extremely unlikely that it would work for the Amex offer.
