BJ’s Wholesale Club: Giftcards On Sale (Hotels.com, Southwest & More) + 5% (Update) – Hotels.com Down To $85!!

Update 10/29/18: Hotels.com has been further reduced to $85 (previously $89.99) annoying for those that have already purchased but an even better deal than before. Don’t forget all the other ways to stack deals with Hotels.com. Hat tip to reader Lisa.

Update 10/28/18: We erroneously stated there was a limit of three gift cards that could be purchased. This is not accurate, no limit is enforced. Additionally it has been confirmed that these deals can be purchased with the current free membership.

The Offer

Online only, not available in club

The Fine Print

  • Limit of 3 per custoer No limit

Our Verdict

Keep in mind Chase Freedom & Discover it cardholders can get 5% back this quarter as well. Everybody should be able to access these deals even without membership (confirmed working).

I ordered 8 southwest (just to max out the freedom amount). It went through. I didn’t see max 3. Maybe they will cancel?

G, “Limit of 3 per member” in the fine print under “Product Summary”. I am guessing they will cancel your order. But please report back. Thank you for being a data point!

Everything was smooth. Received all 8 on Friday.

Not clear if these are available in store, but I see their regular price includes a small discount (at least on the Southwest one).

Went to BJ’s today under there no membership required period. What was in store was not discounted. Was interested in VGC but they only had 50 or 200 denomination and carried a 6.95 fee. I’d take it for 500 but looks like BJs is a bust for me on the CF 5x category.

Check around, I have 5 in Georgia and only two of them sell the $500 OV from what I’ve been told.

I think they have a promotion going on where there is no non-member surcharge. Normally it’s 15%.

Updating this post. Went back to same store after word from Billy and Drivesabrowntruck . Found the GC rack and walked out with 3 VGC for 1350. No fees and no membership!

Please explain the math for me here “3 VGC for 1350 No fees”
Which denomination VGCs did you buy and what do you mean by “no fee”?
Thanks

All 3 were $500 variable load OVVGC. I already spent $150 at other retailers in the bonus category. 500, 500, 350. My check out total was 1350. No fees added at check out. Any where else I have bought cards in past had 4.95/5,95/6.95 activation fee.

Thanks JuicyJosh so much for the detailed explanation 🙂

I saw $25 Dunkin’ Donuts gift card for $20 in the store near me (also mentioned in the coupon book they sent, no coupon needed for this)

I just went to BJs in Columbia MD yesterday and picked up a bunch of 500 VGC and they rang up with no fee. Plus I am a non member.

Justin Sure do. MS is easy around here, if you know where to look 😉

Could you check out 3 cards in one transition? Or have to do one by one?

JuicyJosh
JuicyJosh

Did three in one. Was worried about Chase fraud alert while in line with people with tons of items but went smooth.

Same in Northern Virginia. Best part is that you can buy them at the self-checkout registers and type in your own amount. I bought 3 on one transaction and two on another with no cashier involvement. Excellent for the Q4 Chase Freedom bonus. Only bad thing is that they’re Vanillas :/

The BJ’s at Skyview Center was giving free danish to non members at the entrance this week!

Is there somewhere to sell these giftcards? Or is everyone spending them organically?

Thanks Doc! Just saved some nice $ on a planned SW flight.

Buy gift cards you can use at a discount. It means if you spend it on planned purchases that you have budgeted…hotel stay, dining out, household purchase, etc., you are saving, PLUS getting points for the gift card purchase. But be reminded, the purchase of gift cards does NOT count towards a minimum spend.

Non member, had no problem ordering online after creating free account. No surcharge or shipping cost and we don’t have BJs in my area so this was great to know! Thanks for the extra 10% savings DoC!

Billy Drivesabrowntruck Just making sure im in the right place of the store. Are you finding the $500 VGC in the check out lanes? Was the only place I could find any cards.

Drivesabrowntruck

There’s a rack at the front with every gift card they sell at my store. It moves around the store sometimes, or so I’m told by a friend who has a yearly membership. I got the free 3 month trial just for Discover/Freedom quarter.

Justin

I saw Domino’s 3x$15 ($45 total) GCs for $34.99 at my Raleigh BJ’s. That plus 5% Freedom cashback seemed like a really good deal but I took a pass this time around. Probably a YMMV but they had 5-10 units left when I visited a week ago. I’m guessing clearance pricing and not part of this promo??

Totally off topic but delicious: prosciutto fresh sliced in the deli was only $8/lb which is an incredibly good deal for the United States.

Folks, BJ’s open house (until 11/4) provides 3-month “”FREE”” membership trial.
$500 VGC at BJ’s has no fee. Maximizing your Freedom and Discover there.

Only saw 12 months for $25. Do you have to ask about the 3 month free membership?

That’s exactly what I was talking about. And they told me it’s not “or”. You still can get $25/yr after 3-month trial.

>> You still can get $25/yr after 3-month trial.

It depends on whether the $25 promotion continues after the end of the 3 month trial. The CSR I dealt w/ claimed that the current $25 promo expires on Nov 4th (i.e. expiration date of the Open House).

BJ’s anyway offers various sign-up promotions throughout the year, sometimes directly, sometimes through Groupon / Living Social, so even if the $25 promo expires, another one should appear at some point.

Is this only for new members? We renew in Dec.

At the “proof” link posted above are images of the Promo Card BJ’s is handing out to non-members during the Open House. Side 2 of the Promo Card has the T&C’s for both the 3 month trial and the 12 month $25 membership. The 12 month membership T&C’s state:

“**This offer is valid in-Club or online at BJs.com/OpenHouse only, may not be comined with other offers, is not redeemable for cash and is only good for new BJ’s Inner Circle Members.

Since you said “We,” that implies that you have multiple people under 1 membership (i.e. a PRIMARY member and an ADD-ON member). If you don’t care about retaining your membership HISTORY, have the current ADD-ON member sign up for a new membership under the Open House promo (as the new PRIMARY member), either on-line or in-club, then add YOU as the ADD-ON member.

Bonus: After the new membership has been squared away, a few days/weeks later (but before your CURRENT membership expires in Dec), CANCEL that membership and request a refund of your membership fee (it’s their policy to refund the membership fee upon request provided it’s cancelled BEFORE that membership expires). You might be able to accomplish this cancellation & refund over the phone. If not, visit your local club’s customer service desk and cancel there. 😉

Thanks. Saw the freebie. That will be enough for me.

Drivesabrowntruck

I assume you mean the membership to the club, not the VGC fee’s are free. I’ve heard mixed reports of $500 OV ringing up fee free. I went by last week to check and was charged a 5.95 fee like always. I’d try again but I’m working the Gold card till December for the 25k reset.

Creditian
Creditian

Nope, fee of regular Vanilla VGC ($5.95) is waived at checkout which I think all the time. Membership is 3-month for free.

SideshowBob233
SideshowBob233

It’s been a while since I’ve been there (maybe 6 months) but as of then they did not waive the $5.95 fee. So it might be related to the current non-membership promo, might be YMMV by store, or might be a newer system glitch (or possibly a permanent change for the better). Either way I’ll be heading over there soon!

Drivesabrowntruck
Drivesabrowntruck

Creditian I’ll have the head back out, found someone who posted a picture and they weren’t the OV Vanilla in silver and black packaging. Would you mind posting a pic of the packaging you’re getting fee free on?

SouthWest GC appears to be an ON-LINE ONLY deal. It rang up for $193.99 at a B&M Wholesale Club location (which is the normal discounted price).
