The Fine Print
- Offer valid for the promotional period from October 20, 2026 through and including November 10, 2026.
- Offer not valid for clients with an existing Investor Checking account.
- New-to-Schwab clients must open a Schwab One brokerage account with a linked Investor Checking account and deposit qualifying net “new-to-Schwab” funds into the Investor Checking account.
- Existing Schwab One brokerage account clients who do not have an Investor Checking account, must open a new linked Investor Checking account and deposit qualifying net “new-to-Schwab” funds into the Investor Checking account. Offer available to all eligible Schwab One account registrations, including Individual, Joint Tenants, Tenants in Common, Community Property, and Trust. All account owners must be U.S. citizens or U.S. resident aliens, reside in the U.S., and have a U.S. mailing address, excluding U.S. territories.
- Eligible clients must open and fund an Investor Checking account by November 10, 2026 with net “new-to-Schwab” funds and maintain the qualifying net new balances through December 25, 2026.
- Qualifying net “new-to-Schwab” funds means assets not currently held at Charles Schwab Corporation and/or any of its affiliates and transferred from an external financial institution. Existing Schwab assets, transfers between Schwab accounts, and funds currently held in any Schwab account do not qualify toward the funding requirement. Qualifying deposits may be made through one or more transactions. Only qualifying net “new-to-Schwab” funds received during the promotion period will count toward the funding requirements. Qualifying net “new-to-Schwab” deposits must be posted to the Investor Checking account by November 10, 2026.
- Maintain the qualifying net “new-to-Schwab” balance every day from November 10, 2026 through and including December 25, 2026 in the Investor Checking account to remain eligible for the bonus. Withdrawals or transfers that cause the net “new-to-Schwab” balances to fall into a lower balance tier for even one day during this timeframe will change your maximum bonus. For example, if the net “new-to-Schwab” balance is $100,000 on November 11, the maximum bonus you could earn is $1,000. If the net “new-to-Schwab” balance is $75,000 on December 1, however the maximum bonus you can earn changes to $500.
- If all offer requirements are met, the cash bonus will be deposited into the Investor Checking Account within one to two statement cycles. The Investor Checking account must remain open and in good standing at the time the bonus is credited. Note: An account in good standing must not be restricted nor carry a negative balance. Limit one cash bonus per client, regardless of the number of eligible Investor Checking accounts opened. The primary owner of the Investor Checking account is the individual qualifying for and receiving the bonus. Offer and account opening subject to bank approval.
- Charles Schwab Bank may issue an IRS Form 1099 to you that reflects the value of such bonus. Please consult your tax advisor about the appropriate tax treatment for this offer and any tax implications associated with receipt before applying.
Avoiding Fees
The checking account and brokerage account both have no fees to worry about. And no early termination fee is mentioned either.
Our Verdict
The bonus itself is good. Biggest thing to keep in mind is that the money needs to sit in the Schwab checking account which basically earns zero interest (.01%). Here is some math:
- Assuming the funds are tied up for 60 days, it’s around 6.25% APY return which is better than the regular rates out there, but only by a couple extra percent.
- If the funds are tied up for 50 days, the yield ends up around 7.5% APY. (Technically, you can wire the funds in on November 10th and wire out after the weekend on December 28th. The wiring out is feasible, but I’d recommend wiring earlier in case there is some issue with the transfer going through.)
Historically, we haven’t seen much in the way of checking bonuses from Schwab. The Schwab checking account gets a lot of attention for their full ATM reimbursements, even international ATM withdrawals.
Overall, I’d say the bonus isn’t a home run, but something to consider, especially if you would want to keep the Schwab checking account open long term for the ATM benefit. We’ll add this to our list of Best Bank Bonuses.
There’s also a separate, non-stackable, brokerage bonus from Schwab of up to $1,000.
