Capital One Shopping Portal Review

[Update 3/22/23: Capital One Shopping Portal Removes Walmart & Safeway Redemption Options]

I began noticing the Capital One shopping portal pop up on Cashbackmonitor a few times lately as the highest portal rate, and finally decided to use it for that Giftcards.com deal last month. I didn’t know anything about the portal until recently and decided to write this mini review.

Capital One Shopping works entirely separate from the Capital One bank login. Anyone can make a Capital One shopping account, even if you don’t have any other relationship with Capital One.

Initially I had thought Capital One Shopping was a feature for bank users, similar to the Capital One offers which rolled out recently, and similar to Chase who has a shopping portal for their own users. But it’s entirely unrelated to Capital One – it operates as a standard shopping portal like Rakuten or Topcashback.

The portal pushes you toward their Chrome extension which works similar to Honey and shows you available promo codes across the web on sites you visit. There are additional shopping features as well which I haven’t investigated well at this time. But you can also use it like any other standard shopping portal to get cashback on shopping purchases. The click through can be done either from your online Capital One Shopping login or from the Chrome extension.

A downside to the portal is that cash out is only available via select gift cards, there’s no Paypal, Visa, bank, or Amazon gift card option. The best options for most people will be Walmart, eBay, Safeway, or Lowe’s. They have a total of thirty five gift card options available, including Staples, Office Depot, Nike, Gamestop, Stubhub, Kohl’s, Hulu, Petco and more.

While redemption options are limited to specific gift cards, you can redeem any amount from $5 and up, rounded to the dollar. It can take up to 24 hours to get the gift card to your inbox.

In my case, I used Capital One shopping for two Giftcards.com orders and only the second one tracked. I haven’t filed a claim since I used a promo code and ‘technically’ they can say that’s why it didn’t track. It only took about a month for the cashback to become Available which is pretty good timing; I now cashed out my rewards for a $23 Walmart gift card.

While only one of my purchases tracked, that’s a common issue with shopping portals, and I wouldn’t assume this portal to be any worse at tracking purchases than other shopping portal. One additional tip: to see your ‘shopping trips’ before anything tracks you can X out the black ‘Trips with Purchases’ tab and then all your click-throughs will show. Also note, Capital One Shopping does require you to add a credit card before cashing out as some sort of security measure.

Feel free to discuss your own thoughts or experiences in the comments below.

Update: Capital One Shopping also has special increased offers via their mobile app

Often double, and unfortunately cashbackmonitor can’t seem to scrape the app so it’s usually wrong and you have to check manually

“…unfortunately cashbackmonitor can’t seem to scrape the app”

… or the C1 portal website. I had one this week. Cashbackmonitor said $2 cashback. C1 shopping portal website was $5 cashback.

Sometimes the rates in the app are lower. But they are often different, for sure.

This just happened to me today.

When I signed up, I think I used my capitalone.com login to do so (similar to how you can login with google/facebook/microsoft/etc) rather than creating distinct login details. Whenever I would try to login later, I had some browser/cookie issues that kept directing me to error webpages. Tried to login using username and password (again, never created one… since I logged in using capitalone.com login details) but those didn’t work. Tried to reset password but the reset link never arrived. Also tried to create a new account and it said I already had one (despite me not having login details and not being able to reset the password).

Reached out to capital one for tech support. Got the exact reply you did. Cannot imagine what would have looked suspicious about my account. I had only made a single purchase with the portal ~5 months ago, for rewards of ~$20, so nothing significant enough to really care about. It’s really just bizarre.

Bad experience with Capital One Shopping. Earned $81 from $2000 of Giftcards.com purchased at 6% or 8% Cashback Rate (It was at that time when they were offering the higher rate). Tried to redeem that $81 via eGiftcards. They kept canceling my redemption orders and refunding back the $81 as available rewards. Finally, they blocked my account and I am not able to login anymore. Customer Service is also not replying anymore. I don’t think I have done anything that is outside the rules. Strictly followed their rules but still, they stole my rewards. I am thinking about complaining to BBB, FTC and my state consumer watchdog. Probably my situation will not be remedied but at least a complaint will be on the books against them. Another learning for me…avoid any product that has the capital one name on it. They will not approve you for CCs and they will steal your rewards.

This exact thing happened to me. Are you able to login and redeem rewards after filing complaints with BBB and FTC?

C1 shopping portal is a joke. I used it twice for giftcards.com orders back in October and November and nothing ever tracked.

I used it once and it tracked fine and then again and it didn’t. Found out that I had Raketun or RMN extensions that were killing the tracking. Since removing those, C1 has tracked without fail.

Where can you see or check the tracking on a Capital One Shopping portal purchase?

11/23 – Made a purchase through the portal
11/27 – Received email: “Mangorunner, your $5 back is on the way”

If you have a Capital One credit card, you must link it to the Capital One Shopping site in order to see Capital One Shopping Portal activity. They are not linked automatically – and the credit card and the portal are different websites. Go to https://capitaloneshopping.com/ and say that you want to login with your Capital One account.

That said, my 11/23 purchase made through the shopping portal has not shown up as a “Shopping Trip” on the Shopping site, but I did receive an 11/27 confirmation email from Capital One that I have cashback on the way.

Chuck I see there is another DP on this from Jrad below but after a year or so it had never happened until now: I received a targeted offer via email.

Gopro is at 3% on the website and 6% in the app, they sent me an offer for 18% via email. Pretty massive for an electronics retailer.

In this case I had clicked into GoPro from the app probably 5 times in the last few days (but checkout failed due to some issue). Unfortunately it is still failing for me. But it seems maybe if you click hard enough on what you want you can manifest a deal! 😂

Capital One Quicksilver Mastercard currently has an AT&T offer for a $113 cash-back statement credit for an AT&T purchase made through the Capital One portal. However, the offer doesn’t say what is a qualifying purchase, the minimum purchase amount, or the offer expiration date.

These two (2) screenshots (in an Imgur album) show all of the available information:

I clicked through the offer and there is no additional information at AT&T. It just lands on the AT&T home page. Has anyone done this offer? Did you get the $113 statement credit?

Don’t see how, as they both act as portals.
