[Expired] Capital One Spark Cash $2,000 Signup Bonus & Spark Miles 200,000 Signup Bonus (6% Back) [Last Days]

Deal has now expired, view the best current credit card bonuses by clicking here.

Update 1/7/19: Capital One has told affiliates that this deal will end on January 28th, 2019. Keep in mind sometimes offers are still available after the affiliate link end date, but I wouldn’t rely on that. In addition Capital One is usually better about pulling offers than other issues but YMMV.

The Offer

Spark Cash signup link | Spark Miles signup link

  • Signup for the Capital One Spark Cash card and get the following bonuses:
    • $500 bonus after spending $5,000 within 3 months
    • an additional $1,500 bonus after spending an additional $45,000 within 6 months ($50k spend total)
  • Signup for the Capital One Spark Miles card and get the following bonuses:
    • 50,000 miles bonus after spending $5,000 within 3 months
    • an additional 150,000 miles bonus after spending an additional $45,000 within 6 months

Card Details

  • Card earns 2%/2x on all purchases
  • Annual fee of $95 is waived first year
  • No foreign transaction fees

Our Verdict

The cards always earn 2%/2x on all spend, and you’ll get that on all your spend, on top of the bonus. In the end, you’ll land up with $3,000/300k after spending $50,000 ($2k bonus + $1k from regular 2%/2x earn) which is a 6% return on spend. Previous standard offer was $500 after $5k spend, and we’ve seen $1k after $10k spend as well.

Personally, I think I’ll pass so as not to have to deal with all the spend, but this is quite a nice offer for someone with lots of spend they do anyway or has creative ways of increasing their spend.

Capital One is a bit of a downer since they pull all three credit bureaus. You can somewhat limit this by freezing your TransUnion or Experian reports and they will just pull Equifax and whatever one you didn’t freeze (note: some have had problems with this method). I still think this is a strong bonus, plus, hard pulls are becoming less of an issue for most people with other issuers cracking down on how often you can get a sign up bonus.

We’ll add this to our list of the best business credit card bonuses. If you have any questions about Capital One, please read this post first.  Capital One business cards also report on your personal credit reports, which is important for anybody worrying about Chase’s 5/24 rule.

Capital One recently added transfer partners which makes their Miles card the better option for someone who wants to use this toward travel. If you don’t travel at all, you’ll be better with the Cash card since redemption on the Miles card might be difficult for you. Here are the Spark Miles transfer partners, transfers at 2:1.5 ratio:

  • Aeromexico
  • Aeroplan (Air Canada)
  • Alitalia
  • Avianca
  • Cathay Pacific
  • Etihad Airways
  • EVA Air, Finnair
  • Flying Blue (Air France and KLM)
  • Hainan Airlines
  • Qantas
  • Qatar Airways

Got the 1k/10k this time last year, AF about to come up, haven’t used it since the MSR.

William Charles

Yeah, let me add that previous deal to the post.

William Charles , I’m in the same situation, AF about to come up, no use for the card itself.

Does it make a difference if I downgrade the card or cancel it outright?

If downgrading is the better option, can I only chose within the ‘Spark’ business family or also any other Cap One card (since it gets reported on the personal credit report anyway)?

What’s my best option as far as downgrading in your opinion?

thanks in advance…

William Charles

No real difference, in the long term downgrading is better for your average age of accounts but it won’t really make much of a difference. I’d just cancel personally

If I’m thinking about this right, you get 400k miles with 50k spend. Hell of a deal, specially if they continue adding more partners.

$50k spend=225k airline miles.

I was trying to do the math and completely failed lol

It says on the sign up page that these cards require excellent credit, which in my mind means a FICO of somewhere around 780+.

I’ve had a bunch of CapOne cards and I only get denied when I try to apply for too many of them in a short period of time.

I’m going for one of each on this promo. $6000 payout including bonus and regular 2% – Yeah, I’ll take that. 😀

Crap! After December I’ll be under 5/24 again.

3 HP’s and 3x reporting to the CBs, the main point I only use biz cards is that the utilization and aaoa is a non-issue, so i am not quiet getting the allure of these cards

Can you get a Spark Miles card if you already have a Spark cash card open?

I had the Spark biz card last year. They constantly fraud alert your attempts to spend over 500.00. They seem to not allow MS. I was an auth user on my sons Savor acct.. up to last month. he got the 500.00 bonus..but they closed my AU card. The letter sent to him explaining the closure..”the AU has in the past violated the terms of his account..meaning not spending in a usual pattern” So they keep records. Plus much time wasted on phone clearing up FA. Also had 300.00 in cash as bonuses denied..but did get the 500.00 bonus on the biz card last year. If you use the card..claim your bonus immediately.

Hmmm, just as a data point, I never had any issue but I used this card mostly legit. I had $3k of the $10k as MS- $2.5k bank opening $500 gebit (plus used this fairly often after, I didn’t do any signups in a while and so was using this for CB). Bonus posted nice and quick.

CapOne is a bit annoying when you first get the card. Charge more than a few bucks and get a fraud alert. So you call in, get it cleared and try again. Once the bigger charges go through, it’s no problem to hit it with $5k and $10k charges.

I don’t like the fact that the business cards report to the credit bureaus so I don’t give my employees their own cards on these accounts. That’s something they really need to change.

Can you have multiple spark cards?

I’ve had the 1.5% and 2% Spark biz cards at the same time. Not sure if you can get two of the 2% cards though.

Try it and let us know.

According to a CSR I spoke with tonight, you can. MasterBator

What can you do with the miles other than transferring to partners? My bro has the Spark business cash already. He can get the miles version, but he doesn’t travel. Can he convert to HD giftcards, etc?

D of C: we need some erudite advice. In 2019 we are planning travel spend of about $20k total; plus home repairs of $20k plus miscellaneous $10k…in other words we would meet this Capitol One card $50k bonus. Here is where we need advice: given the general spending categories/amounts we list would you go for the Capitol One; a card from Am Express or a combination of cards to maximize rewards in a better (more rewarding) way? Thank You for any rewarding erudition you may reign down on us.

William Charles

Hard to say for sure without knowing the exact breakdown of where you will be spending. That said it’s hard to beat 6% back.

This is a pretty decent deal credit reporting wise. (Keep in mind that Capital One bus cards do report account to credit bureaus.)

It’s pretty common to get at least a 10% return for your spend on a lot of bonuses, but you have to sign up for a number of other cards to get a $2,000 bonus. The real value here is only adding a single tradeline to your credit report and the ease of putting all the spend on a single card.

I tried to freeze Exp when I got the Spark Biz earlier this year…I was rejected. I had to unfreeze, they reran the ap, and was approved. Basically I tried to avoid the Exp pull and ended up getting two pulls on the other two. I would avoid the freeze trick, because the downside is a double pull

I have Spark Cash card for my business — got approved 2 months ago. Do you think it’s likely I can get upgraded to this offer? How would I go about doing that, calling Cap One?

William Charles

Cap One doesn’t match, but you can try by giving them a call with the number on the back of your card

Could be a nice stack with “Plastiq: New Business Signups Get $5,000 in Free Credit Card Processing after Spending $15,000” if you can push $15,000 through by December 31st.

Yoni
Yoni

Saw that as well only caveat is you just need to add a Biz card to a Plastiq biz account – but you can earn up to $20k FFD for referral of other PLASTIQ Biz accts that spend $15k

BTW is this a MC or Visa card?
But $15k on Plastiq $249/ $375 against the $2K bonus.

Yet $2k for a single account and 6 months to meet MSR – Seems like a no-brainer.

Brent

VISA – won’t be able to make most mortgage or loan payments via plastiq with this card

Any idea how long this will be around? I remember the Spark business cash $1K offer getting pulled relatively quickly. Will be 4/24 from December and would like to hit Chase before adding another Cap One…

William Charles

Not too sure, I think this will last longer than that though as those were effectively leaked links

So maybe I’m just daft, but I’m having a hard time digging up concrete, detailed info from cap1 on how the miles redemption program works. All of the info on the cap1 website I’ve been able to find is pretty general.

But using 3rd party sites like NW, TPG (shudders) and here, I get that if you select the “miles” version in anticipation of the transfer partners, you won’t be able to redeem for cash at a 1cpp rate. That sucks. Having that flexibility is always nice.

Can anyone who has experience with Cap1 confirm if I sign up for the Cash version, if I’d be able to PC to the Miles version fairly easily, or vice versa?
