We recently posted about a $150 bank account bonus for a Chase total checking account. Today we will be looking at a bonus for $200. The requirements are a bit higher for this promo offer as you need a Chase Premier Plus checking account which has a monthly fee of $25.
Contents
The Offer
- Receive a $200 sign up bonus when you sign up for a Chase Premier Plus checking account and receive qualifying a direct deposit
The Fine Print
- To receive the bonus you must do the following:
- Sign up for a Chase Premier Plus account using the promotional code or print the code out and bring it to a Chase branch (subject to approval)
- Fund the account with $100 or more within 10 days of account opening
- Receive a qualify direct deposit. A qualifying direct deposit is classified as a employer payment or government benefit.
- Only available to new account holder. You’re considered a new member if you don’t currently hold, or haven’t held one in the last 90 days.
- No specified direct deposit amount required
- Bonus will be posted within 10 days (our experience is that Chase will deposit the bonus the Tuesday after you complete the requirements)
- You may only receive one Chase checking bonus per calendar year
- Bonus is considered interest and will be reported to the IRS. As such you’ll have to pay taxes on it
Avoiding Fees
Premier Checking Plus Monthly Fee Of $25
The Premier Checking Plus account comes with a monthly fee of $25. To have this waived you need to complete one of the following:
- Average daily balance of $15,000 or more or
- Automatic payments linked to a qualifying linked Chase first mortgage
Early Account Termination Fee $25
If you cancel your Chase checking account within 6 months of account opening you’ll have to pay a fee of $25. We suggest keeping the account open for this period of time, as it might also effect your eligibility to earn these bonuses from Chase again.
If you close your account within 6 months and have a balance of $0, it will go into negative and will be reported to Chex systems. This will make it almost impossible to open other deposit accounts in the future.
Our Verdict
- Opening Chase checking accounts is a soft pull
- You can fund Chase checking accounts with a rewards credit card, up to a maximum of $500 (non-Chase cards only)
- Click here for a list of work arounds that will trigger the direct deposit requirement of this deal
I won’t be participating in this deal because I already received a $400 bonus from Chase earlier this year (I had to purchase a code from eBay to get this deal). Personally I don’t think this is a great deal, you need to have a minimum of $15,000 in spare money to receive the full bonus, you also need to fiddle around with direct deposits (which Chase is cracking down on).
My suggestion would be to either go for the other public $150 deal if you don’t feel comfortable purchasing coupons from eBay or purchase one of the $400 or $600 codes currently available (depending on which requirements you can meet).
