New Chase Card Accounts Can Be Used Instantly Upon Approval via Mobile Wallets (Samsung/Apple Pay, PayPal)

Chase cards can now be used instantly after card approval by adding the card to your mobile wallet like Apple Pay, Samsung Pay or Google Pay.

I was recently approved for the Chase Sapphire Reserve card, and Chase sent me an email with the subject line ‘Use your new credit card before you get it in the mail’. It stated as follows:

Your new credit card ending in [redacted] is on its way, but you can add it to your digital wallet now and start using it to pay in stores, online and in merchant apps.
To add the card to your digital wallet:
• Sign in to the Chase Mobile® app.
• Choose your new credit card.
• Go to your digital wallet and then add your card.
Once it’s added, you can start using it right away. You may not be able to use your full line of credit until you verify that you’ve received your card in the mail.

A few r/churning members mention getting the same, and I assume this now works on any new Chase card. And coole106 gives us a tip to get the card added to Paypal too via Chase Pay which is really helpful for online merchants who do not accept mobile wallets. (Update: readers in the comments were not successful with the Paypal bit.)

So while Chase is not as easy as Amex who often gives the actual card number instantly upon approval, this mobile wallet workaround is almost as good.

We’ve updated our List of Credit Cards that Issue an Instant Card Number Upon Approval to reflect this change. I think this option has been around for at least a month or two, possibly longer.

Applied to Chase Bonvoy Boundless on 01/12. Got the two weeks message.
Automatically approved in the morning (01/17). I called in to request an expedited delivery so they processed a card replacement request with rush delivery for free.

I was able to add this card to GPay through the “Digital Wallets” option on the mobile app but not yet to Paypal. I did not try adding it to GPay before the phone call. But I did try linking the card through the Paypal website (and providing my chase credentials to Paypal) and that was unsuccessful then as well as now.

So for the folks who are having trouble linking to GPay, Samsung Pay – it might be worth it to call Chase to expedite delivery. It might trigger the activation of your mobile wallets faster.

New DP: Applied and approved for Chase World of Hyatt online today. I was able to add the card to Apple Pay right away. I cannot add the card to Google Pay or PayPal.

I still have not received my physical card, but I have just now been able to add my card to Paypal. Curiously, I still can’t add it to Google Pay. It seems like Chase may have some rules on how many wallets you can add your card to or how soon after approval you can add to Paypal.

Took a few days after applying (applied on Friday, was able to add Wednesday late night), but was able to first connect my Sapphire Preferred to Samsung Pay, and then I was able to connect it to Paypal.

For some reason, I couldn’t connect it to Paypal first, had to do Samsung Pay first. The way I connected was by using the Chase Mobile app, clicking on the card, and then clicking on “Digital Wallet”

It might be because when you try to add the card to GPay through the mobile app, it asks you to accept the card member agreement. I assume this is the same for Samsung Pay and maybe the system isn’t set up to do the same for Paypal.

Guess I should have read through the comments first. This article really should be updated because it is misleading. Just applied for Chase Freedom Flex and was approved. I see the card in Apple’s Chase app, but the card is missing from the list of cards available to add to digital wallets.

Same! Freedom unlimited. It worked for my sapphire preferred. Maybe it’s just for sapphire series.

After being approved for the United Quest Chase card, I was able to add the card to Apple Pay and Google Pay right away, but not PayPal. Checked back a couple of days later and the option to add it to PayPal appeared.

Chase app does not let me add IHG Select or IHG Premier to Apple Pay. Those cards just aren’t listed under “Digital Wallet”.
Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Freedom, Chase AARP, Chase Hyatt and Chase Freedom Unlimited are available to add to Apple Pay.

Recent DP, was approved for CFU in April 2021 and was not able to add the card into mobile wallet. I had both Google Pay and Apple Pay in chase mobile app (android or iOS), I didn’t had the option to add it into my mobile wallet though the account showed in my chase app right away.
Even after receiving the card and activating it, the chase mobile app still didn’t list as eligible card for adding into either wallet.

I was approved 3 days ago, and received the notification telling me I can enroll in digital wallets before I receive my card this morning. I am unable to add it to Samsung or Google Pay. The Chase Mobile app says I do not have any eligible cards to add right now. It’s kinda of crummy for Chase to send me that notification if it’s not accurate.
