Chase Freedom Announces Q1 2019 5% Categories: Gas Stations, Drugstores Tolls

Chase Freedom has announced the 5% rotating categories for the Freedom card for the first quarter of 2019:

  • Gas stations
  • Drugstores
  • Tolls

Category dates are January 1, 2019 – March 31, 2019. You can activate the bonus beginning tomorrow here. Must activate no later than March 14, 2019.

These are nice categories; gas is always a favorite, drugstores sell gift cards which help maxing out the $1,500 limit if you are so inclined, and tolls is useful for commuters as well. For comparison sake, in Q1 2018 it was gas stations, communications, and mobile payments.

We already know all of Discover 2019 categories – Q1 is grocery stores.

Costco gas counts as gas for the 5%. Gas at the Ambassador Bridge counts as gas, and the Ambassador Bridge toll counts as a toll (charged in USD at unattended booth, not CAD).

Well at least it’s all drugstores and not just Walgreens…

Wish I could load my costco GC at the pump and have it code as gas! I don’t think any stores sell Costco gift cards and that’s one of my bigger spends

It does code as Gas Station. Filled up at Costco a few days ago and got 5%. Costco Gas Stations, since 2018, has coded as Gas Station.

I actually meant my Costco cash card that I can use in store. If I could refill it at the Costco gas station and get 5% in the store that would be fantastic.

Are airline gift cards easy to redeem when booking flights? So if I buy $750 each SW and Delta will I have a problem using them? Should I buy in certain increments?

It’d be nice if they’d allow gift cards at the gas stations to be sold using the Freedom for the 5x but I think only cash is allowed

This will be easy, I’ll bank 52.5k within the first month with 7 freedoms.

I am trying to figure out how to do this since my income in 2019 will be $20K max. I’d like to increase it to $52.5K !

He meant to say 52.5K UR points this quarter by maxing out 7 Freedoms (7 x 7.5K) and not actual income.

Darn!
I was hoping to find a way to earn $ with minimal effort.

Lol I have 3 and its hard to max them out every quarter.
(2 of the 3 are Sapphire Preferred and Reserve product changes).

Yeah, that’s the way to go. My wife and I each had a single freedom that started off as a freedom, the rest are product changes. Go at your own pace – it’s just all for fun anyways, I’m a work from home programmer so I’ve got time to do this as a hobby.

It feels like the credit card companies that want to stay *relevant* have to match AMEX offers, even TRAVEL bonus, like tolls
