DoorDash to buy Instacart for $17 Billion

DoorDash announced today they’ll be buying Instacart for $17B in a mostly-cash deal. The transaction values Instacart at $65 per share, which is 26% higher than Instacart’s closing price on October 22, 2026.

The transaction is expected to close at the end of 2027 or the first half of 2028, subject to approval by Instacart stockholders and other regulatory approvals.

The press release highlights that customers would pay just one membership fee (DashPass) and get the benefits of both memberships (DashPass and Instacart+). The two companies will remain separate brands/apps while sharing delivery infrastructure and tech.

The press release does not discuss what happens to freebie benefits from credit cards after this deal. 😉 But seriously, we’ll have to see exactly how this shakes out in terms of the Chase card benefits.

Some Chase cards give DashPass and DoorDash credits; other Chase cards have Instacart+ and Instacart credits; and some have both. Presumably, there will be some changes to these benefits and credits following the merger, depending on the agreements between Chase and DoorDash.
