Chase Freedom Q2 2019 5% Categories will be Grocery Stores and Home Improvement Stores

The Chase Freedom card offers 5% back for select categories on up to $1,500 in purchases per quarter. The categories for this upcoming Q2 2019 (April, May, and June) will be as follows:

  • Grocery Stores
  • Home Improvement Stores

This will show up tomorrow at the official Chase Freedom Calendar link, but it’s already showing within the Chase login.

Grocery Stores is an easy one to maximize for most people. If you don’t complete the entire $1,500, you can always buy a gift card to local grocery or else stock up on third party gift cards for places like Amazon, eBay, or Airbnb. Many large grocery chains even sell Visa/MC/Amex gift cards too.

There’s still time to max out your Q1 2019 categories as well.

send an SM if it has taken a while that you didn’t get your bonus points. No need to mention what you bought, just say Lowe’s is a home improvement store so you’re expecting to see bonus pts on your account.

Are you activated for the quarter? Did you already do $1500 in spend?

Thank you, that is the reason. I have met the $1500 in spend (for the 1st time ever).

Does Home Improvement Stores include online purchases from HD.com or Lowes.com etc.?

This update made my fridge spewing water all over suck just slightly less.

Kroger yes

Kroger yes – their subsidiaries (I think that’s what you mean) code as any of various things. For example, Pick n Save, a grocery store brand run by Kroger, definitely code as a grocery store.

Aldi needs to update their gift card rules. I lock in my 5% with Aldi gift cards but they cap gc loads at 2 cards $100 each.

What credit score needed to apply for this card?

Most people will apply for Chase Sapphire Preferred first if you have good credit because it has higher sign up bonus, then downgrade it to freedom later. Not sure about credit score requirement.

If I sign up for this card and spend $500 at the grocery store buying amazon or bestbuy gift cards, will chase honor my sign up bonus or they will shut me down? I mean can I buy $50 worth of grocery and $450 amazon gift card? Does chase care about those things? Dont have any history with chase, only amex
