Chase Marriott Premier Plus Survey – Hinting At New Premium Card?

A few people have reported receiving surveys pertaining to the possible new Chase/American Express Marriott/SPG cards. Reader @PresleyTried received a survey about ‘Premier Plus’ card, the only details given were:

  • 100,000 point sign up bonus
  • 6x points at Marriott & SPG properties
  • 2x points on every else
  • Free night stay every card anniversary

[ReadAmerican Express/Chase SPG/Marriott Cards – What Should You Do]

Chase already issues the Marriott Premier card and that offers:

  • 5x points at Marriott & SPG properties
  • 2x points on airline tickets purchase directly, car rental agencies & restaurants
  • 1x point on all other purchases
  • Free night stay every card anniversary

Reddit user zXFDz also received a similar survey and it looks like the card is metal.

As we know Chase has said they will issue “mass consumer and premium consumer card”. I’m a bit worried that this is the premium card they are talking about. 6x at Marriott/SPG isn’t a huge increase on the 5x they already offer and 2x everywhere isn’t that useful considering other cards offer 2%+ cash back and most people won’t value Marriott points anywhere near 1¢ each. I can’t see this being anything but the premium card given the name though, fingers crossed this isn’t what they are settling on or there are other benefits not listed.

Its obvious this is the premium card.

The “Mass consumer” card will almost assuredly be a no AF or minimum AF card.

So I would say at this point it’s pretty a safe bet both the current Marriott and Marriott Biz will be no more. The only question is, will this be a new card, or will they convert existing Marriott Premier customers to this- nullifying the chance to get a bonus if you’ve had one in the past 2 years. I’d think it’s new.

The other question is- does the Ritz go bye bye? Only to be replaced by the AMEX Super-premium version (whatever that will be)?

It’s looking more and more like every card is getting replaced sans *maybe* the SPG Biz.

I thought, according to the rumors of the terms of the deal, that Amex would be issuing the premium ($450ish AF) card. The card pictured in the ad is a Visa. Chase is supposed to continue with the mid-level card, which they already do, and this seems to be an updated version of that.

I hope Chase would upgrade Ritz-Carlton
9X on Marriott and SPG
4X on everything else.
And something on restaurant or gas.

Ritz needs a big overall IMO whomever ends up with it being Chase or Amex. As the CSR spanks the Ritz card other then the sign-up bonus. I cancelled mine about 6 months ago as have Platinum from Amex, SPG business along with the CSR the Ritz just didn’t make sense. It needs a big buff IMO.

There are THREE programs merging into one: Marriott, SPG, and Ritz!

So just as there will be no SPG program in year or two, there will also be no separate Ritz program in a year or two.

Many people think the replacement for the Chase Rtiz card will be the Amex Super Premium card.

While a slight improvement, it’s still not better than the SPG card. Bumping this to 6x only matches SPG, while 2x everywhere else falls short, since SPG gets 1pt per dollar and converts to 3 Marriott points.

Unless they really ramp up other benefits, there’s no “premium” about this card at all. I’d get it for the bonus points, but that’s about it based on what’s reported here.

Agreed. You have to divide all those point offers by “3” to get equal to SPG cards.
Also, no better than current non-branded Chase cards.

SPG card certainly won’t last into 2020 before being removed by AMEX, so this will be the only game in town for the “Premum” reward card, as opposed to AMEX’s forthcoming “Super Premium” card.

Hopefully there’s going to be a change in the anniversary night even if there’s an annual minimum spending requirement, so at least it can be used in major North American cities and Hawaii where I’m assuming a lot of the card members are. Otherwise, it’s still going to be a sh***y way to reward card loyalty.

Remember, the Marriot Premier card adds 15 EQN to your account, making it easier to achieve Gold or Platinum Status.

This card could be worth it if they give you a free room at ANY Marriott hotel cat 1-9. That would make the difference if it included all the benefits of the regular Marriott and a free room at any Marriott hotel worldwide

Hell, I’d be happy with the option to upgrade the current cat 1-5 certificate.

Now, that is a constructive thought!

I’ll assume it’s subject to 5/24, which means it’s no good for me.

Hard to say. Right now Marriot regular is and business isn’t. So what they do with new products is impossible to know.

Could this card possibly replace a current card?

Given that it is a Chase card, I think you hit the nail on the head. As Doc indicates, this isn’t all that better than the current card, but placing both side by side, it still is better than the present card. I assume that it will also permit one to earn one free elite night with $3,000.00 spend.

It is generally a waste to use the card on any of the current bonus categories except on the hotels, as there are many other cards with better returns or protections (e.g. primary car rental insurance, etc.) than the Marriott premium card. The new card will permit one to earn 2 points/$ and that could sway some people to use it on non-bonus spend if it carries the boost to your yearly elite night total.

What this does hopefully indicate, however, that AMEX’s super premium card will at least be better than this one – perhaps 10X points/$ for use at the hotels, as well as an anniversary free night certificate — at what Category level will be where the rub is, but I have got to think that it will be above the current Category 5 with Chase.

Here were my biggest gripes with the current Marriott card.

1. You actually earn more points by using your SPG Amex card since the two are in the process of merging into one entity. This one was a killer when I did the math.

2. The bonus anniversary night would have made this a decent play, but when you actually tried to redeem, it was almost impossible to find any decent option. You could only pick from the most remote areas in their cheaper brand properties. No thanks, not going out of my way to a remote town for a night just to redeem a benefit.

Canceled it after 2-3 years, should have canceled it a lot sooner! These changes would not even make me blink twice, there is no improvement here. If the anniversary night allowed for better Category hotels, then maybe, but I would imagine the AF would go up as well.

In the US most “mid-to-big city” Marriott branded hotels are at least category 6. You get more value if you’re traveling internationally to Asia or Africa.

My thoughts exactly. They need to change the the category to 6.
