Our Verdict

Recently the targeted sign up bonus has been 70,000 miles + $50 (you can almost always get the extra $50 by doing a dummy booking). This offer is obviously worse, but the upside is that it’s publicly available. Personally I’d wait it out for a 70,000 mile offer, but most people won’t be eligible regardless of the sign up bonus due to the Chase 5/24 rule.  Before applying for this card or asking basic questions regarding Chase credit cards, please read this post first. Do the Club passes expire if it’s not used, or do they roll over from year to year?

Partial answer; From the offer details on the card, ” Each United Club pass is subject to the expiration date located on the pass.”
After how long will it expire?

Is this normal? When I click Apply Now it asks me to enter my MileagePlus number. Then it prepares my application and takes me to a landing start page that makes no mention of the 50k miles or $100 statement credit? Only shows:

Free first checked bag – save up to $100 per roundtrip (terms apply)
Priority boarding
2 United ClubSM one – time passes each anniversary
Earn 2 miles per $1 spent on tickets purchased from United and 1 mile per $1 spent on all other purchases

I applied this card in June 2016, got the bonus in August 2016, and closed it in July 2017. Am I still qualified for bonus this time I apply again? Thanks.

If I recall correctly, the 70K offers (including the +$50) DID NOT waive the annual fee. Makes this a little more attractive, although I imagine most would still pay $145 ($95 + $50 less) for the 20K points.. This does have a ‘free’ angle that those didnt though.

I find it kind of funny that the banner ads I’m seeing on this page are for the 40,000 offer for the same card xD

My wife is at 3/24. I tried having her sign up for this one when it was 70K and then the recent Marriott 75K. Both applications went under review. We got one of the letters saying too many recent accounts, but she has 0 new accounts in the past 12 months and 3 in the past 24 months. Calling reconsideration line gave the same answer, though they wouldn’t say that over the phone….they just sent another letter in the mail. Can’t seem to get anything with Chase anymore. Multiple hard inquiries with nothing to show for it.

Is she an AU on any of your newer cards? This can cause issues sometimes.

Just on one of them. I stopped doing that a while ago because of Chase trying to count those against the 5/24. So technically she is 2/24 + 1AU.

When was the last time the 70k offer popped up? I won’t be under 5/24 for a few more months.

Got my answer 😢 xxx let me share that your account is not eligible for the new $100 statement credit offer you requested. The original offer you applied for will remain on your account.
