Our Verdict

We often see AmEx offers for Chewy as well, those are a 20% discount if you spend exactly $50. There is also a Capital One offer for 15%, Capital One offers do exclude gift card purchases but worth a try.

How quick is Capital One with their offers?
Small print says 3 billing cycles which is ridiculous.

The overall terms of the CapOne program exclude GCs “The purchase of a gift card or gift cards is not a Qualifying Offer Purchase.” Whether that is actually enforced, I have no idea.

Terms for the chewy deal do not disallow gc – odd for the program terms to contradict individual offer terms. Either way, don’t have my hopes up.

Also just noticed that at some point apparently Chewy has started appearing on portals (thanks CashBackMonitor). I had actually given up looking for Chewy on portals because they hadn’t appeared on any for years. Now there’s some decent offers. Some of the best ($20 GivingAssitant, $15 TopCashBack) only apply to new Chewy customers, but I think the % offers (e.g. RebatesMe 8%) are available for repeat customers. Regrettably, the portal offers tend to exclude purchase of gift cards. But you could use the portal when spending the gift cards you buy on the 17% off sale.

Just to add to this: Capital One currently has 15% (maybe targeted), and SwagBucks regularly has CB for Chewy boosted to 4% and occasionally I have seen it up to 12%

actually they don’t own them anymore. Chewy was spun off in an IPO. I used to work at Chewy. WORST. COMPANY. EVER.

I placed my order almost 6 hours ago.

I have more than one account at chewy. Also I logged into the chewy account using Rakuten. Also, I used a credit card that was used for a different chewy account recently. Not sure if any of those are related to the delay for me or not.

Thanks for all the tips. They recently started stocking orijen, and so they’re running a promotion (30% off first autoship + $20 chewy egift card). Unfortunately I can’t seem to apply my purchased gcs to this order since you’re getting a gift card with it.

If you have a CapOne card, check for offers. I have a CapOne offer for 15% off Chewy.com. I called (I know, should never call), and apparently there is no max amount of order, and gift cards are *not* excluded. It also seems to repeat.
So I’m planning on getting another $78.45 in statement credits on my 5 g/c orders, so a net price of $444.55 for $625 of g/c, for a final discount of 29.9%.

The terms of the capital one offers program specifically excludes gift cards, but I’ve never used it, so it may track.

Cap terms most certainly do not exclude gc.

“What is a qualifying purchase?
To make a qualifying purchase, you must click the button above, and then complete a purchase at the selected merchant’s site, in the window opened by the Capital One Offers tile, within 24 hours, using your eligible Capital One credit card. Offer is not valid by any other method.

Use of other coupons, cash back, or promotional websites after selecting an offer and before making a purchase will invalidate your offer. Offer is not valid in-person or by telephone, and in-store pickup does not constitute a qualifying purchase. Purchases made without first being redirected by a Capital One Offers tile are not qualifying purchases.”

I tried another portal the terms of which did not exclude GCs and while the purchases tracked they showed 0 cashback so hopefully the CapOne works better. I honestly didn’t expect it to track so not disappointed.

More fine print. Notably, the gift card discount is limited to $20.40 per order, so theoretically $120 max gift cards per order. It looks like denominations are fixed (25, 50, 75 or 100), so probably optimal is 1 $100 + 1 $25 in an order. Gives you just a little less than a 17% discount. You can get 5 orders per account, so a total of $102 discount for buying $625. Don’t know how far you can go in gaming this with multiple accounts.

*Subject to Promotion Terms https://www.chewy.com/app/content/promotional-offers-terms.
Discount automatically applied at Checkout.
A minimum spend of $30 on Gift Cards is required to qualify.
Max discount of $20.40 per order, limit 5 orders per customer. Valid until 3/17/2021 11:59 PM EST, while supplies last.
By purchasing an eGift Card, you agree to our Chewy Gift Card Terms & Conditions.
eGift Cards are emailed to recipients within one hour after you place your order.
There’s no expiration date or hidden fees on eGift Cards.
You can redeem one Chewy eGift Card per order.

Chewy only allows you to spend ONE gift card during a transaction, so plan your card buys carefully. As in… if you buy $100 card and your food purchase is $95, you’ll have a $5 leftover balance that you won’t be able to combine with more cards on a future transaction. This means, if you ever want to spend the $5, the rest of your order must be paid with real money.

So true. I buy mine in $50 increments. Since free shipping is at $49, I’m almost guaranteed to use each one up on each order.
