Chime Removes Debit Card Load Option

Chime has added in a new limit which puts a max of three times that the debit card load option can be used.

Some people were using the Chime debit card option for checking accounts that have a swipe requirement to keep it fee-free. Under the new rules, you can only use a debit card three times over the lifetime of the account, taking away that ability.

When I tried adding money via debit card a couple of weeks ago, I was stumped why it wasn’t going through. Probably it was due to this restriction.

Update: Reader JB was told by Chime that the limit is only for new cardmembers, and existing cardholders have no limits.

Today I encountered issues with this. I was under existing members get unlimited transfers with debit card …. but today it ended. Still waiting for support to confirm or correct it. But this account is useless to me without this option.

I just tried to load money via debit card to one of my accounts and it appears they added the 3 transfer limit to the account. This account has been working all year until now. My other account is still working fine with no transfer limit. Anyone else having issues?

Yes I encountered this issue and I was existing member that should not have this limit.

Unlimited debit card transfers for life for existing card holders. The new limits only apply to new applications.

This would be great. Are there any other changes that only apply to new applications? What’s the source for this? Thanks!

The biggest bummer for me is that the debit card option makes the funds available right away, versus loading with a bank account, which makes the funds available after a few days. Makes it hard to take advantage of the hot offers if you don’t have enough money in the account.

That fact is not lost on them I’d bet.

Well this still remains to be seen. What Jamie wrote is true but as I mentioned in the other thread I was able to load today for like the 20th time with the same card and it went through alright… Waiting for the Chime support to get back with a clarification on this matter.
