Citi Dividend Q3 2022 5% Categories: Gas Stations & Home Improvement

Citi Dividend has finally released the Q3 2022 5% categories:

  • Gas Stations
  • Home Improvement stores

Activation Link

Both of these are nice summer categories. You can also buy gift cards to other retailers at stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s. Some convenience stores might be considered Gas Stations as well.

We’ll update our post Q3 2022 5% Quarterly Categories: Activate, Offers & Suggestions (Freedom/Flex, Discover, Dividend, Cash+ & more) with the Citi Dividend categories.

Remember, Citi is different than other 5% quarterly cards in that you have a $6,000 annual cap rather than a $1,500 quarterly cap. Thus, you can get 5% back on up to $6,000 in this quarter, you can save the entire amount for a different quarter, or you can use part up each quarter. A lot of people might have already maxed out their Dividend cards for the year with $6,000 in purchases during Q2 2022 quarter of Grocery and Drugstores given how easy it is to use the Grocery category or to buy gift cards from the drugstore and grocery store.

Wish it didn’t overlap with freedom on gas but home improvement is a nice category.

Have not yet regretted converting my Dividend to a second Custom Cash.

To each his own. Don’t get me wrong; I love having a Custom Cash card (converted from a useless TY card), and I’m looking forward to having a second when my Citi Premier card reaches its birthday. I’ve been using my Custom Cash for the Home Improvement category since I got it, which is great except for that pesky monthly spending cap. In the less than a year that I’ve had the CC, I’ve gone over the cap three months. I’ve got some big projects coming up Q3, and it will be nice to not have to keep track of switching cards mid-cycle (or mid-transaction). Yes, Dividend does have the yearly cap, but it’s 1/12th of the hassle to remember to not use a card for the rest of the year versus tracking how much I’ve spent on a card this cycle. I’m planning on keeping my Dividend card until the bitter end.

As a public transit rider who doesn’t own a car (and who lives in a rented apartment), this is pretty useless to me – from both Citi and Chase. I guess I’m taking the quarter off.

Home Depot / Lowes both sell various store and restaurant gift cards. Could always try those.

If Lowe’s sells $500 VISA gift cards, that is what I would be buying. I know that Home Depot around me doesn’t.

They sell $200 ones I think. Not really worth it though with the fee.

Pretty sure they only have the $200s with a huge 6.95 fee, so not really worth it

Sometimes Lowe’s has Visa gift card sales. It may be good for this. I left about $400 of spending on my Citi Dividend for cases like this.
