Citi & Sears Extend Co-Branded Credit Card – $425 Million Dollar Deal

Citi and Sears have extended their contract for their co-branded credit card. Citi will pay Sears $425 million as part of the deal that will see the co-branded deal extended until December 31st, 2020. As part of the new deal Sears has also given up the right to purchase certain assets tied to the card program. Citi & Sears have been co-branded partners for 15 years and arguably offer the best store credit card due to the frequent promotions they offer.

I’m even more convinced that the current leadership within Citi is incapable of making good decisions after they discontinued the prestige card and then got into deal with a collapsing Sears organization.

I can’t find a good link for the $150 back option for signup. All I can find is a $20 statement credit after $30 spend. Anybody have an active link to the $150 back option?

Dying company, dead brand. Definitely not worth $425 M. Cannot believe there will be any Kmarts / Sears left by 2020.

I remain deeply confused about this card… can someone please explain it really slowly?

Does it earn Thank You Points (great) or Shop Your Way Points (useless)?
Do the great 10X promos that DoC writes about apply to TYP or SYWP?

Thanks

There are two versions of the card. I don’t know if you can get the ThankYou Points version for a new sign-up. I got that version through an automatic conversion at some point years ago. Didn’t even realize what those points were until I started reading these blogs.

Can I product change to this card from Double Cash?

Thanks, really appreciate it.

All the application links I see say “with Shop Your Way.” If I get that one, can I convert it to one that earns TYP? Or do I have to apply for the TYP one directly?

This truly has to be the most confusing product in a game of complicated products.

Sears planning to be around that long seems surprising

I wonder what the details for the Citi / Sears Mastercard that has ThankYou Points are. Anyone know? I’ve had this card since 1994 (my first credit card actually) but no idea when they converted it to ThankYou Points – I didn’t pay much attention to that sort of thing until just a few years ago.

You actually have to call the CSR to switch your whole point system from SYW to TYP. Then the card will basically only earn 1x point everywhere.

I have the ThankYou Points version as I said. Don’t remember when they converted it from the regular Sears Mastercard.
