Citi Will Drop 5x Categories On Their Forward Card To 2x On June 4th

Citi used to offer a credit card called the Citi Forward card, it hasn’t been available for new sign ups for several years now but existing cardholders were grandfathered and received the following benefits:

  • No annual fee
  • 5x Citi ThankYou points on restaurants, movies, music and books purchases

Via Frequent Miler Citi have sent mail outs to existing cardholders letting them know that on June 4th, 2016 this card will no longer earn 5x points on those categories and will instead earn 2x points. In addition to that points will no longer expire (previously they expired after five years).

This is a pretty big hit for people with the card, the next best cards only earn 3% cash back on restaurant purchases and Amazon also codes as a bookstore so it was an easy 5x there as well.

Noooo! I love this card… probably my most used card between the 5% back on Amazon and restaurants. 2016 is turning out to be a very dark year… first bluebird, now my precious Forward card. Why God! Why! (pounds fist against chest).

So sad. Had great 5 year run with this card for meals + Amazon.

Well it was a fun 7 years.

Trying to decide between keeping the card for the free $1 a month or trying a PC to the DoubleCash…

What are best MS uses for the Forward card before the change happens?

This is a sad day, indeed. I guess it’s time to dust off the old Citi Professional card. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted. Thanks for the memories (and points).

Well there it goes from being used everyday including Amazon purchase hard to probably not ever. I was using it for 5% CB on student loan checks.
