Reader Ken reached out about an in-store cashback/points program on City National Bank (CNB) credit cards called Rewards Plus. There’s two part to it: one is an online shopping portal (not sure if their payout rates are competitive). But there’s another component to the program, which allows extra points for in-store purchases.
Some current offers showing:
- 5% back at CVS (max $5 bonus)
- 5% back at Staples (max $5 bonus)
- 5% back at AMC
- Home Depot
- Kohl’s
- Gap
- There are lots of other offers for in-store purchases from local merchants, mostly restaurants and flower shops, but a bunch of other places too.
You have to log in the rewards account part of the credit card (cnbrewards.com) and then click on “Rewards Plus” to find the offers. Be sure to activate the offer and spend at the merchant during the correct timeframe.
We’ve posted many times about cashback/points deals on Wells Fargo cards with Wells Fargo Go Far Rewards. Not sure if CNB ever has the high 40% offers that we’ve seen from Wells Fargo Go Far, but overall they seem to be running similar kinds of offers and similar merchants.
Different banks will often share a single backend system, for example, Cardlytics runs the cashback program for Chase, Bank of America, PNC, BBVA and more. Reader aubergine suggests that Wells Fargo and CNB also have a single administer running their backend; if anyone knows which company runs these or if there are other banks using the same backend, please let us know in the comments.
