DFW Centurion Lounge: New Lounge To Open In October, Existing Lounge Won’t Reopen

American Express announced that the DFW Centurion lounge would be closed for renovations from July 24th until August 14th on short notice. The timing was peculiar based on the fact that American Express had previously announced that they would be opening a new centurion lounge at DFW (originally scheduled for the first half of 2018). American Express has now come out and stated that the existing lounge won’t reopen at all and cardholders will need to wait for the new lounge to open sometime in October. American Express provided the following official statement:

Due to additional maintenance needed in our current DFW Centurion Lounge location, we will not be reopening this space. However, we look forward to welcoming Card Members into our new expanded Centurion Lounge location in DFW airport in early October, which will be located across from Gate D12 (near the Starbucks and Duty Free). We apologize for any inconvenience.

Platinum & Centurion cardholders do get complimentary Priority Pass lounge access, but the options at DFW are truly awful. You have the option of minute suites in terminal A & D, you’re limited to a one hour stay and there is no food/beverages provided. You also have The Club at DFW in terminal D except that normal lounge is also currently closed and they currently have a temporary lounge that is best described underwhelming bordering on useless. I understand that construction delays happen and American Express would have certainly tried their best to get the new lounge opened and likely don’t want to pour resources into the old lounge but it is frustrating for cardholders that have trips/lay-overs planned out of DFW and were counting on the Centurion lounge being available. A sensible compromise would be offering some type of food/beverage credit until the new lounge is opened, unfortunately American Express seems uninterested in trying to meet cardholders in the middle.

Yikes… I planned a 3 hour layover at DFW for my flight on August 15. Feels bad.

Yup we had a horrid time in late July. Checked out the Centurion and yes it was closed. Tried to pay to get into AA but they aren’t doing paid passes at the moment since they’re juggling lounge construction too. Tried “The Club” and left relatively quickly. Complete waste of time. Tiny/packed/no food. We got some waters and left.

Hope they can accelerate the opening date of the new lounge.

You must be new to construction projects?! I’d be rooting for it to be opening on time, actually; just look at how many delays they’ve already had!

Minute Suites provided by Priority Pass is a scam because an hour isn’t enough for you to take a nap or really relax and food and drink are not provided. The only possible use for it is if you’re traveling with a companion and want to do some…activities that you couldn’t otherwise do out in public. Otherwise they might as well be giving you a $20 off coupon.

The Club is very hit or miss. The only good The Club is the one at SJC, but it’s constantly shut out to Priority Pass members. They really need to update their website and just list out some hours where it’s closed to PP members because they won’t let in anyone if there’s an international flight leaving within the next…2 hours? There’s only a small window of time when they’ll let in PP.

Lol I’m at DFW and yeah the club at DFW is smaller than imagined. You have to leave to use the bathroom. Free alcohol though :/

Even though my home airport is DFW , ive never been to the clubs in DFW except last week when i was in cincinnati. The clubs in general seems small, and also the club at CVG did not have a restroom inside either and the menu for buffet was chips, coffee and soda and also some fruits.

You went to The Club in DFW while you were in Cincinnati? Did you take it with you on the plane?

“…ive never been to the clubs in DFW except last week when i was in cincinnati…” I am so confused. What are you saying?
