FNBO Ducks Unlimited Credit Card Review – No Longer Earns 5% Cash Back On Sporting Goods Stores & Gas Purchases

Update 3/31/20: Not sure when this happened but the landing page no longer shows 5% back on sporting goods stores and gas purchases. Now just shows 1.5% cash back on all purchases. Not sure if this also affects existing cardholders. Hat tip to reader John D

FNBO offers a ducks unlimited credit card. This card is somewhat interesting as it offers 5% cash back in select categories and a portion of every purchase helps funds wetlands conservation.

Card Basics

  • Card has two options: Rewards card & Low Intro Rate card.
    • Rewards card earns 5% back on sporting goods stores and gas purchases & 1% back on all other purchases
    • Low intro rate card has a 0% introductory APR on purchases and balance transfers for first 12 billing cycles
  • Card has no annual fee
  • A portion of every purchase goes towards Ducks Unlimited

Our Verdict

This is basically the same rewards as the NRA card. Both are issued by FNBO, but this supports ducks unlimited and that card supports the NRA. That card also has a $40 sign up bonus.

As of December 2020, still getting 5% on gas with my ducks unlimited card. I hope they let us know if they make any changes to the card so I know when to stop using it.

I have the card since last year – existing owners are not affected by the change. Still earning 5% back on gas.

Looks like that’s one less card I’ll be getting long-term.

Just got off with CSR rewards structure remains at 5%5% for existing card members at this time and new applicants is the 1.5% crud. They offered to change me to the 1.5% reward structure if I wanted, obviously I opted not to. So if you already have the card you are safe for now at the 5% cats.

Thanks for the info. Why would they even make the not-so-generous offer. PenFed is still doing the 5% rewards at the pump for existing cardholders.

Interesting that if you go directly to the FNBO website, it offers a 2% cashback card. While the Ducks Unlimited shows 1.5%.

Wow – Glad I kept Fort Knox and PenFed. Although they are at the pump only. PNC offers 4% on Gas, inside and out.

Both Fort Knox and PenFed are pump only? Not in the attached convenient store?

savingwizard That’s correct. When Freedom offers the 5% at Gas Stations, it’s inside and out.

Jethro Tuller You’ve tried this? Have you tried 7-11 for Fort Knox? I am just about to submit my financial docs in an application to Fort Knox, and if they don’t give 5% at 7-11, then I don’t want to give up one of my Chase 5/24 slots for this card!

I haven’t tried it, but when I asked the credit union, they said Pump Only. As I understand it, it’s a separate MCC at any pump.

yea I love this card and it is still showing as 5% back on everything bought at gas stations and sporting goods in my terms online. its probably everyone buying guns with this card during the pandemic that made them change there mind on 5%. but seriously, I have gas stations in my town that offer AMEX SERVE reloads and visa Vanilla cards. your suppose to reload using cash but as long as do a split payment and give them 5$ in cash along with my 495$ credit card payment in which I earn 5% cash back. its been a gold mine. I’ve earned $2,500+ in cash back this year with the ducks Unlimited card. so I really hope the terms stay and I get grandfathered in. easiest side hustle ever. it will be $10k a year in extra income

unfortunately the visa gift cards and serve reloads are only available at Town Pump Branded gas stations, which can be a Conoco or Exxon gas station. But they can only be found in Montana. When i moved here from Houston, TX i thought i was moving to a place where MS’ing goes to die, i couldn’t have been more wrong, this place is a gold mine. i have 5 places to turn visa’s and Mastercards into money orders and i also have an 4 albertsons a safeway a staples, 2 walmarts, and super 1s allow you to get money orders using a debt card and i have a K-mart which also allows it. i did $550,000 in MS’ing last year and the ducks unlimited card was a big part of that. i wouldn’t be giving this info if it wasn’t Montana. i don’t mind if you wanna take a MS’ing vacation here, but don’t move here i am literally the only one in my town MS’ing and i want it to stay that way. even though i have earned so many points and sign up bonuses i’ve had to switch to a strictly cash back focused plan. anyway i wont tell you exactly where i live but its easy to figure it out with the info i have given. goodluck.

Are you using the DU card itself to load Serve directly or did you mean you’re using a Vanilla card that you bought with the DU?

no you can load the serve card directly with the ducks unlimited card at the gas station, the only caveat is i have to split pay with a few dollars just because it asks if your using cash, so i say yes but only use $5 in cash to load $500-1000.

Sorry I don’t have a serve card yet so not too familiar with how it works. I see some websites mention that serve cannot be loaded with a CC other than Amex. I guess this isn’t a hardcoded rule in the register since you are able to use ducks unlimited to load serve? Is there also a 1k/month limit as well?
