Frontier Airlines has been sent out offers to customers with airline credit offering to exchange that credit for miles. It seems people that cancelled their own flights (and thus aren’t eligible for a refund) are being targeted. The problem is that the miles will expire in September 2020. Offers I’ve seen:
- $26 credit = 20,000 miles
- $66.20 credit = 30,000 miles
- $150 credit = 60,000 miles
- $256 credit = 70,000 miles
It looks like the credits don’t have long expiry either (e.g one I saw was expiring in May). In that situation the miles are probably better as the expiry is actually longer. It seems crazy to me that even the credit Frontier gave customers has such a short expiry given the circumstances.

Has anyone actually received their miles yet?
I accepted the offer to exchange my credit for miles (100k) on 5/5/20. I STILL have not received them.
Remember Frontier has an redemption fee if you book less than 180 days out. I believe it’s $15 if it’s less than 180 and $50 if less than 20. It changes the equation completely. That and the $5.60 you still have to pay on taxes
We were offered 70k miles for a $452.94 credit. Of that $341.94 was tickets and $111 was seat charges.
I was also offered 70k miles for a $326.60 credit. They are doing a terrible job on the conversion rate as it varies widely. Doesn’t make sense to me.
In the past Frontier miles gave had decent exchange rates to other programs via Points.com. investigate before going this route though.
I’m the one who got the 20k points/$26 deal. Also got a $50 voucher for canceling the $26 flight initially, so more like 20k points+$50 voucher for $26. Also, the email explicitly mentions miles will expire in September unless there is positive miles accrual on the account. If you somehow keep earning at least one mile every six months, the miles will never expire. Don’t know if there is any way to earn frontier miles without flying or having their credit card though. I took them up on the offer just because it’s only $26. I think more than anything, this may mean Frontier is going bust and wants to take the liabilities with it. As long it is miles, it goes with the airline I think.
You can transfer in miles from AMEX Membership Rewards to keep them active, 1K:1K ratio (plus 60 cent fee per 1k transferred).
Frontier, we have a problem….good chance we don’t have fully restored leisure travel before the end of September.
Got the T3 one (60k) and for me, they expire in September. Not sure if ill take on the deal or get a refund considering the circumstances but here’s a breakdown of their most affordable point system:
US & PR: 10,000 One Way (OW) 20,000 Round Trip (RT) + [$5.60 or $11.20 in fees respectively]
Mexico : 15,000 OW 30,000 RT + [$33.70 or $80.20]
D.Rep : 15,000 OW 30,000 RT + [$36.90 or $105.70]
Jamaica : 15,000 OW 30,000 RT + [$49.60 or $135.87]
Agreed, but those points deals rely upon international travel to those countries being allowed/announced by the end of August, simply to really plan a trip in this environment. I wouldn’t bet on it.
Are there good ways of using these miles other than 1) taking flights and 2) exchange them on points.com? Asking for a friend.
The miles usually expire after 6 months if I remember for Frontier so maybe other earnings would extend those dates? I’d be curious to know on that. Also says won’t expire before September 2020. The travel credit example expires in June so this seems like a no-brainer for me.
