[Expired] Giant, Stop&Shop, Martin’s: 2x Fuel Points on Mastercard Gift Cards (6/26-7/2)

The Offer

Stop&ShopGiantMartin’s (not yet showing)

  • Giant/Stopandshop/Martin’s have an offer showing in their upcoming circular for June 26th – July 2nd:
    • Get 2x fuel points on the purchase Mastercard gift cards.

Gift cards generally don’t earn fuel points at all at Giant/S&S/Martin’s, but occasionally they release offers like this to get points on gift card purchases.

Gas Points Details

Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 20 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 1500 points, you’ll get $1.50 off per gallon.

  • Max discount in some areas is $1.50. In other areas, there might not be any max.
  • You have 30 days to use the points. The day of purchase is Day #1. (Giant PA and Martins might expire at the end of the following month.)
  • Points can only be used at partner Shell stations. You can redeem the points in a different area from where you got the points, but only if that Shell station is a partner. Check out the gas locator for Stop & Shop and for Giant for exact listings of which Shell stations are included. (Giant PA and Martins might only be valid at their own gas stations.)
  • See the FAQ for more details. Some of the details vary by area and store.
  • Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.
  • Pro tip: Use a Shell gift card and you’ll usually get the cash price; it’s especially worthwhile to get the lower cash price when using fuel points.

Our Verdict

They offer these kinds of deals frequently in the summer months. Separately, there’s a digital coupon advertised in the circular for 2x points on grocery purchase of $50+.

I bought the exact design of MasterCard shown in the ad (pink gift ribbon) last night and got 0 points. I’ll have to take the receipt to customer service when they’re open- abysmally short hours now even before COVID, the desk closes at 8pm at my store.

So you might want to try any other card design in hopes that it has a different barcode.

Trevor Did you check your points balance again this morning? In my experience with these points multipliers, the receipt shows 0 points, but they post to my account about a half hour later.

I checked again this morning and still nothing. :/ It always shows instantly for me on the receipt.

Trevor That’s annoying. I’ve read that you can call the points help line to get points correctly added to your account.

Pink also didn’t show anything on my receipt.

Now my stop and shop (11217 Brooklyn) does not accept credit cards for $500 GC anymore. Confirmed with the manager.

For those awash in fuel points, Martin’s now has a “choice points” option…. 100 pts => $1 towards groceries; limit of 2,000 points cash out per transaction. Also have select cash out promotions keyed to specific grocery items. (Haven’t tested this yet myself — unknown if there are any restrictions on what you can buy with the points)

Just to clarify for others (assuming Martin’s is the same as Giant), the 2000 points limit is per conversion from points to dollars for groceries. It can be done multiple times with all your points, and you can use them all in one transaction when purchasing groceries.

If you partially use one of the converted units (like, a $20 unit converted from 2000 points), the remainder will be available to use next time. So, for instance, if you have 10,000 points, you can convert them into five $20 units, and if you then bought $95 in groceries, you’d have $5 left for next time.

The points expire 30 days from when they’re earned, but the 30 day countdown starts over again when they’re converted to dollars for groceries.

There seems to be at least a several minute delay between when you convert the points until they’re available for use at checkout, so plan ahead.

Max out when you have extra point shopping with grocery. Again if fuel point expiration still 60 days that would be a great time to stock them

He can give you $498 for $500 card which is pretty good. I have sold him all of my cards when I am too lazy to go to WM

Can’t tell if this is a troll or if someone is actually wasting their time for sub $2 profit.

that rate actually is rather compelling, and would save us all those dirty looks when your transaction misfires and you end up holding up the line…. Intriguing. (Be curious to know more of the re-sale market dynamics on these things)
