This has now been resolved. More information here.
Lots of people are reporting that the 50% Membership Rewards points rebate on travel bookings with the Amex Platinum Business card is not posting properly, instead posting as just 35%.
For background, the benefit changed from 50% rebate to 35% rebate on June 1. The change does not immediately affect those who signed up for – or upgrade to – the Business Platinum card between October 5, 2016 and May 31, 2017. They get the 50% rebate benefit for one full year.
Since it takes about month for the rebate to post, the first reports are coming in now over the past week that the rebate is not posting properly at 50%.
I heard a friend complain about this, and it seems to be a more widespread issue reported by Dansdeals as well as on this Reddit thread and Dansdealsforums thread. Apparently, Amex has not coded the system to differentiate between grandfathered users and new users, instead giving everyone a flat 35% rebate.
You’ll have to chat or call Amex and ask them to have the point post. They might claim that it’ll still post on it’s own at a later date, in which case you can ask if they can accelerate the points and do it now. Another option is to reach out to jump in on this conversation with @askamex on Twitter and hopefully they’ll help you out.
Amex reportedly knows about the issue, so you might choose to simply wait it out. I’ll try tweeting out to @askamex about this in hopes that they’ll fix it. Retweet to help out as well.
Received the other 15% !
booking done Jun 1st
came up as…
07/13/2017 Adjusted Airline Bonus + 15% “”,”””(amount)
Did you contact them for manual adjustment or it came automatic?
In speaking with Amex last week they told me I will be getting the 50% rebate on my purchased tickets. However, I only get the benefits until my Anniversary date which in my case he said is November. I stated that I understood that I would get the benefit for one year and he said no, that legally they can’t make changes during the first year but the changes will hit the account on the Anniversary of the card.
My last redemption posted at 35% on July 4 (booking made June 3). Prior redemption on June 11 posted at 50%.
Interesting. Seems it didn’t break immediately on June 1.
I was approved for the card on 05/28. Last week I called in and the Amex rep told me that on his end it’s showing 50% rebate until 05/28/2018 although after logging into my account the website shows 35% points rebate. Won’t be using that feature soon but I guess calling will resolve the issue.
I recently made a reservation and never received an email which said congratulations your ticket qualifies for 50% bonus. Is that normal. I did several reservations in the past and always got that email about bonus points
Did they remove that feature?
I didn’t receive email, “35%” rebate posted
booked on Jun 1st
Thank you for the DP. I had this card since January 2017. Used points to book few flights and always received an email that I will get 50% points back the next day exactly at 11:11 am. I made one reservation on May 30 and received the bonus email on May 31. Received 50% points on July 1.
This time I booked a flight in July and never received any email. So it looks like I will be getting 35% back then. I will probably have to call them up once the bonus shows up
I didn’t receive an email for a flight booked June 20th. Fingers crossed I won’t be in for a fight once these do post.
Maybe if they hadn’t spent all their resources on their brilliant new website ……
@anon
Booking was made when?
I had on redemption post correctly and another incorrectly-one was at the end of May, the other the beginning of June, so maybe the issue first occurred after 6/1
Yup, since June 1
The 50% on works on the airline you selected at the beginning of the year?
I’m less than thrilled with the new AmEx IT clowns. First they vandalized their well-working and tested website, and now this!
