Update 11/17/21: Live now
Update: Conflicting reports in the comments whether this deal is already live since Sunday or if it’s not live until Wednesday (11/17). Might be store dependent.
The Offer
- Hy-Vee is offering an instant $10 discount when you buy $150 or more in Visa gift cards.
(You can try this link on mobile and see if you get it to show, I can’t see it.)
The Fine Print
- Valid 11/14 – 11/25
Our Verdict
We saw the same deal in prior years; I assume all stores are running this deal, but it might be worth verifying with your local store. Last year it took off $10 per $150, so if you buy $450 or $500 Visa gift card you’d get $30 off. There also wasn’t any limit on how many times you could do it. It might work the same way this year as well which would make it a fantastic deal.
Hy-Vee stores carry $500 Visa gift cards (they do have limits on how much you can buy in a single transactions, e.g. $500, $999, etc, depending on the store).
Hat tip to reader Joe N
Can anyone confirm this is still working today? Looking to make one more round 😊
it is
A few years back it was $10 off $100, and 10 cents off per gallon of gas per $50 of gift cards purchased.
Effectively, a $500 gift card cost $454.95, and I got $1 off per gallon. They didn’t cap the promo, so I bought $25k in gift cards. Took a while to burn thru those gas rewards.
My local Hy Vee only accept debit card or cash for VISA gift card purchase.
Sad!
Merry Christmas to me! This is the best VGC deal ever. Some VGC’s had their purchase fee waived for no known reason even. (So a “pure” $500 GC for $470.) You can see a video I made about it on YouTube — search for “Dugroz Reports” (can’t post direct link here).
$999.99 per store per day limit in my area.
I found the same gift card you talking about on Locust. Lol.
Locust like Downtown Des Moines?
My two go-to stores suddenly have new rules they never had before. Store 1 now is cash/debit only when I never had a problem doing 2k on a card before. Store 2 now has a max of 999.99 per transaction. Guess I’ll take what I can get.
Will this work for the 15x that we get on the Amex resy?
Went to seven Hy-Vee. Started @ $500- then got up the nerve $5000. Got gas points a some locations. Thry do charge the fee, but with a $60.0 discount – who cares?
Got two AMEX uses before AMEX fraud got concerned. Got that cleared then did it again.
Got multiple fraud alerts on day 1. CC companies seem to hate Hy-Vee. I wonder why.
$500 for 475.95 – two such vGC for $951.90
Got some gas points too – YMMV
Which stores did you visit? I’m in Kansas City.
Local store not charging fee, so 1000 for 940. + cc rewards wife bought 1000 too, 200 profit. I love this deal!
Which store? I’m in Kansas City.
5 hours directly east of KC
Ia city or dport?
Got one $500 vgc for 475.95 today so it looks like $10 off every 150. Add in credit card rewards and this is a great deal
“Cash only” at the North Oak Trafficway in North Kansas City.
If someone has the 4X membership reward points at grocery stores, then this is HUGE.
Which locations have worked for you?
I don’t have my full list on this phone but I remember Liberty, 87th/pflumm in Lenexa, both lee’s summit locations, maybe 119th st in Olathe, maybe the one on state line (70th-80th out so).
The location in Des Moines, IA right off the freeway at the south edge of town also took cc of you ever plan to go up that way. I’ll see if I can find my original list and update this if I do.
I’m going to the Zona Rosa and PV ones today so I’ll let you know. I feel like at anytime they could be “cash only” this week. 🙁 Ugh.
Cash only locations: Zona Rosa, NKC off of North Oak Trafficway, and OP 95th street (technically cash only anything above $250.00 spend.)
PV works for cards.
freedom flex has additional bonus categories also. One of them is grocery.
MAX DISCOUNT PER TRANSACTION is $60!
Good to know. Will see if I run into that. Otherwise just gonna have to do a lot of 1000s.
Was just coming here to say this. This hurts as one of my stores has a $1,999.99 limit on gift cards.
