Update 12/31/20: This has been extended for stays through February 28, 2021. Hat tip to Hoang
The Offer
- Hyatt has released details of its new Bonus Journeys promotion. You’ll earn triple base points on all stays from October 1, 2020 and January 4, 2021. World of Hyatt cardholders will be able to earn quadruple base points at 350+ properties (160 Hyatt resorts, 200 SLH properties and some MGM properties) Every elite night earned during this promotion also counts towards earning status in 2021 (for 2022).
The Fine Print
- Must register between October 1 and November 30, 2020
- Valid for stays between October 1, 2020 and January 4, 2021
- Limit of 150,000 bonus points can be earned (225,000 for World of Hyatt credit cardholders)
- Valid on previously booked stays
Our Verdict
Base earning rate is 5 points per $1 spent, so this is an extra 10x or 15x (15x or 20x total) at participating properties. Discoverists members will earn an extra 0.5, Explorists and extra 1x and Globalists an extra 1.5x per $1 spent. Hyatt points are worth a lot more than other hotel chains, so this is a very generous promotion. Hyatt has also extended the 15/25% rebate on award bookings and free parking. I expect we will see a lot more very aggressive hotel promotions from other chains in the future. Normally hotel promotions aren’t enough to get me to change my booking behavior, but this one does tempt me.
Re “Update 12/31/20: This has been extended for stays through February 28, 2021. Hat tip to Hoang”.
For posterity, the above is untrue. It was extended back in on like Dec 1 or thereabouts; there’s even been a notice of this here at DoC:
https://www.doctorofcredit.com/hyatt-reduces-elite-status-requirements-for-2021-by-50-extends-promotions/
Looks like the admins here just never updated this very page back on Dec 1.
These are definitely not base points
Can you earn Globalist if you don’t have the Hyatt Credit Card? If so, what’s the quickest route to get there? I want to take advantage of this opportunity if I can. TIA!
You don’t need a credit card to earn globalist. You need 60 qualifying nights the credit card gets you there slightly faster.
Edit this year it’s reduced to 30 nights
In addition to the Globalist elite nights requirement being reduced from 60 to 30 nights in 2021, Hyatt’s current Bonus Journeys promotion allows you to qualify for Globalist status with as few as 15 nights in a hotel. The promotion gives double elite nights for 2021. You need to register for the promotion by January 15, and you need to checkout no later than February 28 in order to get the double elite nights for the stay. So, for example, if you book a 15-night stay from February 1 to February 16, that would give you 30 elite nights for 2021 and would qualify you for Globalist status through February 2023.

The double elite night promotion on top of it. Tempting.
No Hyatt credit card = NO STAY
Comparing this deal with current Marriott Promo:
As an Explorist with WoH CC you get:
-5x Base pts
-15x Bonus pts
-1x Explorist Bonus pts
-3x Credit card spend pts
—————————————
=24x total points per $ spent (not counting taxes/fees)
As a Marriott Platinum with a Marriott Co-branded CC you get:
-10x Base pts
-5x Platinum member Bonus pts
-10x Credit Card spend pts
+2500 pts bonus + 1000 pts if you opt out of breakfast
————————————————————-
=25x total points per $ spent + 2500/3500 pts.
With Marriott you’ll be lucky to get 1cpp. I frequently get 1.8-3cpp with Hyatt points.
You get 4x as WoH CC only for Resort stays, it seems, otherwise, it’s still just 3x even if you’re a CC holder.
So, as an Explorist if you’re not staying at a Resort:
* 5x Base;
* 10x Bonus;
* 5x*20% = 1x Explorist (can anyone confirm whether you get bonus on top of the bonus, or not? e.g., whether this part is 5*20% or 15*20%?);
* 3UR CSR = 4.5% for CSR groceries;
= 20.5% rebate, if you value Hyatt at 1x and UR at 1.5x (or 22.5% if you somehow get the Explorist bonus on top of the bonus)
There’s an extra play that you’ll get elite status and Milestone Rewards twice for each night, for both 2020 and 2021; but a 20.5% rebate is still a pretty solid deal. Plus, there’s always been one of the Chase Offers for Hyatt for the last few months as well.
Let’s compare this to Marriott Titanium:
* 10x base
* 7.5x bonus
* e.g., 17.5x total for Bonvoy points, but the cash value, if you redeem for Marriott Bonvoy GC, is 0.4, so, it’s 7% rebate on points;
* CC on Marriott would be 10x, but if you value Marriott points at 0.4, then it’s just 4%, lower than the 3x UR that’s valued at 4.5% groceries;
* the grand total is 7% + 4.5% = 11.5% rebate if you value Bonvoy at 0.4x and UR at 1.5x, plus 2500pts * 0.4 = 10$ per reservation, but the 2.5k pts promotion is almost over in a few days, so, it’s basically just 11.5% at this point.
I think Hyatt is a very sweet deal! Marriott is merely $10 per reservation, and is almost out. They’ve officially discontinued Green Choice; highly doubt they’d be giving you any extra points if you don’t want a bagged apple for breakfast.
I have an 10/6 work stay at a HH booked under the double points rate. Do those stack or should I rebook under the normal rate?
I called and asked a WOH rep if the double points rate would stack with the bonus journey’s and she said that they do stack. She said I would get Quadruple double points. I’m staying in early Oct. I’ll update again if it really does play out that way.
It’s actually not working with the double points. The doubled points actually post as a separate line, which doesn’t counted under the 3X/4X multiplier. In results, you are getting 15x/20x of your qualified spending with the ongoing promo, and then additional 5X because of the “double point” rate.
Any updates on whether you got the quadruple double points?
It sounds like all these Hyatt Double, 3x and 4x, as well as the 10%/20%/30% for status, only work on the base 5x points, so, Double is always just 5 pounts, 3x is always just an extra 10 points, 4x — extra 15 points, and 20% is just one point. Would be happy to be proven wrong, but that’s my reading of all the fine print. So, you’ll likely be able to Double-Your-Points rate with this, but you’ll only get an extra 5 points that way, not multiplied in any way.
The terms on the double points rate says they don’t stack with other promos but no telling if they enforce it.
Mind sharing the circumstances behind WFH? Are you paying out of your own pocket to get away from the kids, your own business, or your W2 employer paying out of their budget?
No hyatt credit card..no stay
I already have a booking for October 5th. Anyone know if I’ll have to rebook, or does Hyatt auto-apply the promotion?
It doesn’t matter unless you didn’t register by the time your folio logged into WOH sytem
Alright… so… how do we activate this deal?
Says register between Oct 1 and Nov 30. Link will probably be up then.
