Kroger 4x Fuel Points on Gift Cards [Friday-Sunday]

The Offer

Direct Link

  • Kroger stores are offering 4x fuel points on gift cards this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (2/24/-2/26) by loading a digital coupon
  • Unlimited use

The standard deal at Kroger stores is 2x fuel points on gift card purchases, and they’ll occasionally release offers like this one to get 4x fuel points.

This deal should be valid at Kroger and all other Kroger-affiliated stores, like Ralph’s, Smith’s, Fry’s, etc. Check out your online account to find the coupon at your local store and load it to your card.

Our Verdict

All third-party gift cards seem to be included in this offer. In the past, there have been mixed reports on whether fixed-denomination Visa/MC/Amex gift cards worked to trigger the bonus fuel points. The terms imply that they do work, but it’s YMMV in practice.

Usually, every 1000 fuel points will get you a discount of $1 per gallon with a 35-gallon limit, a max value of $35 per 1000-points. These details do vary by store and region. If you buy $250 in gift cards and max out the 35-gallons, it’ll end up a 14% discount on the gift cards.

To maximize the deal even further, remember that you can get free cell phone service with Kroger when you earn fuel rewards points.

Any idea if 4x fuel points works through their online gift card portal, or must they be purchased in-store?

actually yes, they ordinarily do work via the on-line portal. Do remember having one transaction not getting the 4x…. but most worked. Start slow and test. (I did learn though that the purchases of gc’s via Kroger web site are processes via gcm — so you likely won’t get any additional cashback %’s — say, like if you were using an Amex blue card and expecting the 3%)

I’ve been experimenting with Kroger iwireless rewards. To start accumulating them you only need an iwireless phone, not sold in stores anymore but an acceptable Android phone can be acquired quite cheaply online (probably under $20). Sprint phones also work, I think. Once you register the device you’ll begin earning a dollar in service for every 100 fuel points earned- you don’t need to register or pay for a plan. Credits appear to expire three months after earned, but will have their expiration extended for another three months after you earn another dollar of credit, so as long as you shop at Kroger with some regularity you shouldn’t have to worry. Bonus credits usually post a few hours after making a purchase.

All in all it adds additional rewards to spending so you’re basically getting another 4% back under 4x fuel points. In theory it should be possible to get 6% back with the 1-2-3 Debit Rewards card on the account, but to date I have not been able to succeed to receiving the extra credit. The iwireless service is not the cheapest and it does use Sprint’s network which isn’t the best, but I do think the $10/month plan isn’t terrible for a burner.

If you do intend to be making significant and consistent fuel points purchases and might possibly benefit from having an extra line, it’s probably worth grabbing an iwireless device. I’d suggest a Coolpad Arise- if you can find one.

I’ve been using this for a couple of years and have more iWireless balance than I know what to do with. It’s nice to have “free” (I was going to use the fuel points anyways) unlimited phone service — and not free in like that VoIP junk of FP or RW.

I’ve been getting the bonus from the 1-2-3 card no problem.

My only fear is that I’ll need to upgrade the phone soon (using an older iWireless model) and have no idea how well they’ll handle the transfer BYOD style.

truly an odd “legacy” situation we share, Fork. In my family, we have two I-wireless lines (Kroger version), on a legacy plan where it’s great to have the minutes rollover…. (unlike the rip-off plans they push to new subscribers)

To your question, they do change phone availability frequently on their web site. My wife recently picked up a Moto-G there for $40…. (Ok, yes, “old” technology — but the thing meets all her wireless needs quite nicely)

What grated was we couldn’t use the cash balance that keeps building on the account to pay for the phone. (e.g., the $10 we have to pay every three months, so that the minutes don’t expire)

I rarely use data on these Kroger phones — as I can’t get KIW representatives to give me a straight answer on just what the data rates are on the legacy plans.

You have any “data” on that Fork?

Does anybody know if the 4x works at Turkey Hill gas stations?

Just remember that the points will expire at the end of March, so don’t go nuts. I hate it when they run 4x at the end of the month.
