LG Set To Enter The Mobile Wallet Space – Loyalty Program As Well?

It looks like LG will be entering the increasingly competitive mobile wallet space. The app was mistakeningly launched on January 6th, but didn’t work at all and was then quickly pulled Some things we do know based on this release:

  • Will work on the new unreleased flagship LG phone (“G7”)
  • Will accept Visa & MasterCard cards for payment, no support for Discover or American Express currently
  • ‘LG Perks’ loyalty card. It’s assumed this is a loyalty program for using the mobile wallet, much like Samsung Pay’s rewards program. This isn’t confirmed and the earning/redeeming structure isn’t clear
  • It’s not clear if the name will be LG Pay or LG Wallet or a combination of the two

I assume we will see this officially launch when the new flagship phone launches. I’m hoping for a competitive loyalty program now that Samsung Pay has devalued their program.

They entered the South Korean market a few years ago and failed. The market there wasn’t ready for it yet – according to a South Korean mobile wallet pioneer/ competitor company VP I was training at the time. The market is ready now, but with LG’s low market share, I don’t see this succeeding — in the USA, South Korea or anywhere else.

“It’s not clear if the name will be LG Pay or LG Wallet or a combination of the two”

Hence,
LG WallPay or LG PayWall

LOL!
