Update 12/19/21: Deal has been extended until March 31, 2022 but doesn’t post until August 31, 2022. Hat tip to reader Trent.

The Fine Print
- Starting from November 1, 2021 through December 31, 2021 (the “Effective Date”), all new users who have never registered for an M1 user account and meet the eligibility requirements described below will be eligible to receive a one-time cash reward deposited into your newly opened M1 taxable invest account (the “Promotion”). As further described below, you will be eligible for this Promotion when you deposit, in aggregate, at least $1,000 via automated clearing house (“ACH”) deposits within the first fourteen (14) days of New User Sign-up Date. You can make these deposits on any day within the fourteen-day time frame, so long as the total aggregate deposited amount is at least $1,000.
- To be eligible for this Promotion, and during the Effective Date, you must (1) have never registered for an M1 user account; (2) have successfully opened an M1 investment account; (3) have not used a new account opening referral link to open an M1 account; AND (4) have made an aggregate deposit of at least $1,000 via ACH to an M1 taxable investment account within the first fourteen (14) days of New User Sign-up Date. “New User Sign-up Date” shall mean the first day you submit a valid email and password to create a user login at M1. If you satisfy the aforementioned conditions, M1 will make a one-time deposit into the cash balance of your M1 taxable investment account in accordance with Table 1 below (the following accounts are ineligible to receive any deposit: any retirement, custodial or trust).
- You are only eligible to receive one Promotional Credit1 under this Promotion. The applicable Promotional Credit will be deposited into your M1 investment account on January 31, 2022 (the “Pay-out Date”) provided that you satisfy the conditions stated herein. The Promotional Credit deposited by M1 is a fixed cash value and does not constitute stock or any other security, nor is it a recommendation to buy any specific stock or other security. The total aggregate Deposited Value2 made to an M1 taxable investment account within the first fourteen days of New User Sign-up Date must remain equal to, or greater than, the value after the net deposit was made (minus any losses due to trading, market volatility or margin debit balances) until the Pay-out Date. Reallocation of any funds transferred externally, or internally to any other M1 services (e.g., M1 Spend), prior to the Pay-out Date will disqualify you from this Promotion. M1 reserves the right to revoke the Promotional Credit cash deposit if the total aggregate transferred Deposited Value is not retained in your M1 taxable investment account until the Pay-out Date.
Our Verdict
Looks like you need to keep the account open and with funds in there until January 31, 2022. We’ve discussed M1 Finance before here. This is a great brokerage bonus due to the fact that the holding period is incredibly short.

Will the account be liquidated automatically if I withdraw all balance?
by liquidated i assume you mean closed? because withdrawing “all balance” by definition is liquidation…
anywho, ach $$ out–no, full acat securities out–yes
I only have $60 left in the account. I am trying to ACH the $60 out, but it warns my account will be liquidated. I assume it means the account will be closed, which is OK to me. I just want to make sure they will not charge any fee to me if I do so.
nope, no fees
Anyone get a 1099 from M1?
Slickdealer I haven’t received one and it’s not in my online document center. They may not issue a 1099-MISC as the bonus was under $600.
From their site:
“1099-MISC Promotional or referral bonuses may be reported here if they exceed the IRS de minimus reporting threshold.”
Thanks.
I don’t really understand it some banks issue it even for $100 bonuses.
I ended up getting $1500 total from all the M1 promotions. $500 from the ACH bonus back in Dec/Jan, another $500 from the Nov-Dec 2021 ACAT promotion, and another $500 from the Jan-Feb 2022 ACAT promotion. It took almost a month of going back and forth with them via email and phone in August to finally get the third $500 manually credited to my account, 75% of the time they just never bothered to get back to me and I’d have to start the process all over again with a new agent. I’ll be transferring most of my assets out after this awful experience, especially since I was actively contacted by their client reps and encouraged to take advantage of both ACAT promotions after I did the ACH promo.
Similar experience.

They do have a phone number, its buried on their website but they pick up fairly quickly and it seems to be USA based, that was the only way I was able to resolve all my issues, I did have to call 5+ times though over the course of a month so I still can’t recommend M1.
I did this bonus for an IRA.
Just be aware if transferring back out that M1 charges 2 fees for IRAs.
1) Account Transfer $100 and
2) IRA closure fee of an additional $100.
I also had to go back and forth to get the bonus credited. I still came out ahead but actually wasn’t worth the effort if I had it to do again.
My invest account net worth increase by the amount of bonus: $500. But no recent deposit showed in recent activities. Not sure if the bonus has been actually deposited.
Received the bonus on 8/3. Can I withdraw fund now? Or I better wait until 8/31?
Did anyone else receive the bonus for Aug 1st payout? I did not receive mine yet.
i have not received it, either …
hopefully we will not need to go through all the pain of dealing with customer service …
I guess not many did the second 500 bonus that required funds to stay from April 1st to until Aug 1st. Just as DP: My P2 did this 2nd bonus and the bonus posted today.
I did the second $500 bonus, but I have not received it yet. It was announced to me in my account, and I have a screen capture of the promotion terms, but they are on my old laptop that died.
Was announced to me in my account as well, and I have emails from my M1 rep saying I could do both, and I have additional emails from M1 on 5/31 saying I met all the qualifications and it would post on 8/1 but it didn’t post. Currently waiting on a reply to my ticket about the missing bonus.
Weird that they said you could do this twice, since its just an extension of the same promo…maybe the rep thought you were talking about the ACATs promo?
I’m talking about the ACATs promo + the ACH promo yes.
Could you please tell me how the August 1st bonus was labeled in your P2’s account activity section? Example, the ACH one back in January we all did was labeled “Initial Funding Bonus” in the activity section.
No $500 bonus. New Signup bonus is 250 for 50k+
expired 31 March 2022. Page says expired in it.
The promo above has expired. It was replaced with one offering $250 for $50,000. The funds must remain in place until 11/2022.
