[Reversed] Marriott Extending Free Night Certificates Until December, 2022

Update: Looks like this extension has been reversed for all certificates and certificates that were extended have now expired.

Marriott has extended free night certificates that were expiring on June 30, 2022 until December 31, 2022. No official announcement has been made, but you should see the new expiration date on your certificates. This is the fourth extension Marriott has done (1, 2, 3).

It also appears Marriott extended suite night awards, but this was a mistake and Marriott will be manually expiring these certificates.

Your update is incorrect. Marriott never extended the FNA. They extended and retracted the SNA’s expiring June 30th. This was a false blog post

It was pretty clear that Bonvoy exists only for Marriott to boobytrap Chase and Amex into buying their (worthless) points and make $$$. They couldn’t care less about customer loyalty or goodwill. No wonder properties keep treating us like shit even if we have high level of status. Some even think we are “criminals” for not paying money and getting a “free” stay.

Glad i used my 50k certificates for The Palace hotel in downtown SFO for 5 nights…. then used the 35k certificates in Reno, was upgraded to suite…..and manager also gave Free lounge access for all 3 rooms booked. Thus i used all 14 certificates in 1 week, before they expired. Eyeing the new card for 5 nights for myself/P2/P3/P4 now.

Interesting — just looked up The Palace hotel, and probably at least 60% of nights in the next few months are 66k points or above. Good luck with those 50k certs.

their email and phone call service on anything related to points/cert have been horrible. had an issue with not getting credited and their response was pitiful, 7 emails to ger fixed. i am lifetime gold , I will not be renewing my card as i have had it with their poor service and minimal benefits. I was lifetime gold when it was starwoods, ever since marriott took them over, its been getting worse and worse

FOLKS — CANCEL ALL THE CARDS THAT GIVE YOU THESE STUPID CERTIFICATES! As if this clusterf*** wasn’t bad enough, the certificates are almost totally useless. The devaluations have been so bad that, even with the ability to add 15K in points to use the certificates, there are still no good redemptions.

Are you really still able to consistently find hotels that expensive for only 35k points? I’m curious which hotels are giving you such awesome value for your points

Oh man, what a saga. Marriott is spectacularly bad about PR.

I had to switch my reservation from Hyatt to Marriott at the end of June to use up the expiring certs. Glad I was able to do it. New top-up feature helped a lot. Upgrades also cleared so I ended up in a 2K euro suite. Also used up all my Marriott points.

Not going to state that I’m done with Marriott but I’ll try to stay as far away as possible.
