Update: Issue has been resolved.
Visa is currently experiencing an issue causing Visa credit cards to be unable to processed. This issue seems to only be affecting those attempting to use cards in Europe and the United Kingdom.
We are currently experiencing a service disruption which is preventing some Visa transactions in Europe from being processed. We are investigating the cause and working as quickly as possible to resolve the situation. We will keep you updated.

I guess it pays to carry cash or more than one payment network card as currently both Mastercard & American Express are working fine. More information and updates can be found on The Guardian’s live blog.
