[Expired] McDonald’s: Exchange Any Amount In Foreign Currency For International Menu Items

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • McDonald’s is letting you exchange any foreign currency in any amount for any Worldwide Favorites menu item (excluding double grand McExtreme Bacon Burger)

The Fine Print

  • June 6th 2-5PM local time
  • Limit one exchange per person

Our Verdict

Basically some free McDonald’s if you have a worthless international coin. I always end up with lots of coins that I never end up using. Shame that it doesn’t include the double grand mcextreme bacon burger I guess, but ‘free’ is ‘free’ I guess. For more free food deals click here.

How this reads to me is I can exchange a otherwise unwanted 1 euro cent coin, worthless by itself, for a Canadian chicken sandwich.

It’s not worth having to stomach Mcdonalds.

Ha! I probably have coins in my junk drawer from places that aren’t even countries anymore. 1989 Yugoslavian dinars? I bet the McD’s employees will love this promo.

That Yugoslavian coin might end up being worth more. I’d save it. Use something common like a euro cent , etc

I know, I have some 1980s East German pfennigs hanging around. They were essentially monopoly money even back then. Somehow I suspect that they mean “currently usable in any form” currency. Hmmm. Might have a Canadian quarter or two that will work.

I don’t think they care if it’s still valid.

“Foreign currency does not bear any relationship to the value of the menu items and is not intended as a means to purchase the items, but rather is a way for customers to participate in this promotion.”

Importantly, do you think the average McDonald’s employee can distinguish between defunct and valid currency?

I wonder if the employees will even check or care what you give them..monopoly money, chuck e cheese tokens, etc?

What i wonder is, will they know or make faces and panic/laugh when i tell them

My coworker found some carnival tokens in his car’s ashtray he plans on using. Instead of 1 cent euros I’m going outside at lunch to look for scraped up washers I can pass off as yens.

I have some Chinese RMB, will it work for the promo or is it just the currency from the countries listed

says “any country”.

“Only recognized international currency accepted.”
Well, I recognize it but will the cashier?

are you really questioning the ability of mcdonalds cashiers to recognize international currencies and accept as valid those which actually exist while rejecting those which are bogus or no longer legal tender?

If the customer is an asshole they may not.

Canadian Pennies are actually discontinued, but they accepted them nonetheless.

Finally, I have a use for a Zimbabwean $100 trillion dollar note!

Not that you’d necessarily go out of your way to sell it, but some “worthless” currency is still worth a few bucks to collectors or on Ebay. Best option for this deal is a common low-value coin from a stable country like a penny from Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand. 1 jiao (1/10th Chinese RMB) is a good one too.

I’ll assume you don’t have a 2008 note in perfect condition, but some of these sell for a lot ($100+):

That’s really clever marketing. Hats off to the Arches.

I can finally get rid of those Canadian coins I’ve gotten stuck with in change from cashiers.

But damn, McDonald’s? That’s a tough one to swallow.

Aw man I wish I saw this last night! No time to go home today before 2pm to get my random foreign change 😔

Do they take bitcoin?

I stopped by the two McDonald’s local to me and I was told they would not accept

Both appear in the link of participating McDonald’s.

Sean Paul
Sean Paul

The link is just their general restaurant locator for all locations.

McDonald’s has a history of publicizing promos without working with their francisees (e.g. Rick and Morty Szechuan Sauce), so this isn’t surprising.

Jags
Jags

Oh I figured that, but they shouldn’t have a link for “your nearest participating mcdonalds” and then have it go to any one.

Regardless I really want that Stroupwafel sundae so I’m going to write an email and complain to McDonald’s corporate and see if they’re send me a coupon.

Went to my local McD’s and the manager rang me up. She had no idea about the promo, but hesitantly trusted me. The McExtreme Bacon Burger was really good (and only cost me a Canadian nickel), but it’s quite uncomfortable telling a store manager what their promotion is and having them look at you like you’re trying to scam them.

Yea well I had to hold my phone up to the guy to read it. Then he tells me that it says euro only (I had brought a 5c Aruban Florin) then I explain that it is any foreign currency then someone in the back yelled “we’re not participating!”

.05 and .10 Canadian for two chicken sandwiches. 😀

I worked at McDs a few years ago while I was still in school. This promo is likely going to be a sh*tshow for anyone trying to exchange a Canadian nickel for a sandwich, especially if they haven’t been promoting this.

Exchanged 100 IDR for a Spanish McExtreme, and gave my friend 0.1 CNY for him to get a canadian chicken sandwich 🙂

Wish I had known about this in advance, I would’ve gone to the office and tried to pawn off my IDR coins for a 50 cents apiece.
