My Vegas Rewards Review: Play Virtual Slots, Get Real Prizes

I can’t say I’m a fan of most Facebook games. CandyCrush, Farmville, ect. I’ve never seen the appeal. But give me points that I can turn into prizes I would pay real money for, and I’m down.

That’s exactly what MyVegas Rewards is. You can download the app to your smartphone or Facebook and play online slots or blackjack, all while earning loyalty points for real comps the next time you are in Vegas.

So here are some examples of comps you can redeem your loyalty points for:

  • Buffet Passes

  • Free Drinks

  • Room Discounts (These are usually just a few thousand points)

  • Show Tickets

In general, Loyalty Points seem to be valued at about 1,000= $1.00 . But there are some outstanding values with Bonus Night Comp Rooms. For example:

  • You can redeem 18,000 loyalty points for: a Midweek Bonus Comp Room at Luxor.  The same room is showing up on Kayak.com for $55 a night

With casual game play you should be able to earn 18,000 LP in a week or two.

Game Basics

  • Facebook vs. Phone: The nice thing about having two different platforms to play on is that your LP points sync up. So it doesn’t matter if you earn points on your phone or through Facebook on your home computer. You could even play on both at the same time. But I greatly prefer the Facebook version for a few reasons. The chip payouts are generally larger. You get to build your strip and collect chips every few hours from all of them. The phone app gives you a small bonus every hour, but it’s not nearly as much as you get from having multiple hotels on your strip. But the biggest thing is you can’t run the game while the app is backgrounded. If you are on a regular computer the game can run while you are using other tabs on the browser.
  • LP Points, XP and Chips: You earn two types of points while playing My Vegas. LP (Loyalty Points) and Chips. The chips are just like at the casino and represent how much money you are winning or losing. LP are earned based on how long you stay in the game all though you will earn LP faster when you make larger bets. These are the points you redeem for real comps on your next trip. XP are experience points that track how close you are to leveling up. Each time you level up, you get both chips and LP. At certain levels you also get new games and features like Auto-spin.
  • Your strip: The build your own strip feature is only available on the Facebook game. You will start out with a Sims like replica of the real Vegas strip but with just a handful of more budget properties. As you play though you accumulate more and more high value properties that give out larger amounts of chips.
  • Daily Spin Bonus: Every day when you log in you will get to spin a wheel for your daily bonus. You can increase the amount of this bonus by playing every day, Liking the game on Facebook, and having friends who also play MyVegas.

The key to long term point accumulation is letting the game run in the background while you complete other tasks on your computer. Lets look at the various aspects of the game and how to use them to get the biggest returns for time invested.

  • Auto-Spin:  This is by far the most important aspect of game play to earning points while you are focused on other things. When you set the game on Auto-Spin it will place bets for you for the specified amount of spins. The amount of spins you can do at one time increases as you level up. The other benefit of Auto-Spin is if you press the button at the right time you will be on a lucky streak, and you will see win after win. Conversely if you watch the first few bets placed you can tell if this roll will be a losing one, and cut your losses.

  • Go Slow: If you bet too heavily you will lose your chips. The key is to keep your bets in proportion to your chip balance. Also look for games that allow you to place low minimum bets and have the most unobtrusive bonus rounds. Lucky Birds is popular for just that reason. It has a low minimum bet and the bonus rounds only take seconds to complete
  • Check in often: It pays to make sure you are checking in at least once a day. You can double your daily bonus by 5x just by playing 5 days in a row. The more often you collect from the hotels on your strip, the more chips you will earn. And make sure you check your emails too for large bonus point awards.

Our Tips

  • Use a new facebook account: The facebook app is constantly trying to share your progress with friends. You can always share only with yourself, but it’s much easier if you just use a separate facebook account so you don’t need to worry about this.
  • Look at tip sites for free chip opportunities: There are a few sites which are dedicated to myvegas rewards, they’ll let you know when there are free chip opportunities available:

Our Verdict

I think my biggest concern when I started playing was that I would have to either pay money at some point or spam my friends with requests. While the game does encourage you to do both you are not forced to by any means (we’d recommend not doing this, otherwise you could earn up loosing money). Even if you lose all your chips one day you can just collect more from the daily spins or your hotel properties. The game will also try to get you to share your progress with friends. You can opt out of this (or you can set it to share just with yourself), or you can set up a new profile just for game play. There are Facebook groups you can join where members help each other out to get the most points.

This can be a great way to cover a few nights in Vegas or extras you can’t use other types of miles and points for. The main benefit is that it costs you nothing, not even a credit pull. Most of us spend a fair amount of time on the internet either working or catching up on forums and blogs. All it takes is popping in every so often in between doing other things to net some pretty valuable rewards.

If you do decide to play MyVegas, use a facebook account that is not connected to any of your friends. That way you don’t need to worry about constantly changing the setting to “Share only with me” when it tries to share with your friends. I spent about an hour playing the game and ended up with 2,000+ LP, which is worth about $2. I’d really only recommend this to people who are on their computer a lot and don’t mind checking back in fairly regularly. I imagine as you level up and learn more the earning rate will increase as well.

If you find it a time suck, or you can’t resist the urge to purchase chips when you run out, then focus on another way to earn your way to Vegas. If you or somebody you love has a gambling problem/addiction then do not play this game, instead seek help:
