Office Depot/Max 2% Rewards Won’t Apply to Gift Cards beginning in April + More Changes

Office Depot/Max has a Rewards Everything program which earns 2% across the board. Initially it even earned rewards on gift cards, then they capped that at $200 per quarter. They’re now sending out an email with other changes. The changes I’ve noticed:

1)  Gift cards apparently won’t earn rewards at all.

2) Rewards will be issued monthly instead of quarterly.

3) Rewards will never be issued in amounts less than $3. Rewards roll over from month to month until the end of the calendar quarter at which point they are forfeited (e.g. if you don’t earn $3 or more during April, May, and June, rewards will be forfeited, and you’ll start over from zero on July 1).

Wow that’s crazy! I always assumed GC didn’t count. Just checked and I have $58 in pending rewards. Ka-ching!

visa savingsedge still works on gift cards which is better IMO for each business card you have, 10% up to $50.

The maximum rebate for Visa SavingsEdge is $5, not $50. Nice try.

Yeah even if you got both the Q1 OD rewards and visa savingedge you’re still only better off by $9. It’s nice if you’re buying them anyway, but obviously doesn’t change the math much as they are small caps.

Well, last friday when i tried to buy second set of $400 vgc, the store manager came over and ripped the cards off from the cashier’s hand. She yelled at the poor guy, “did u call, did u call?? U supposed to call if is two!! Did u call?” Her facial expression was like she wanted to eat him alive! Then she turned to me with a really mean face, “no, we can’t sell to you in split transactions. Only one transaction per day!” I was planning to have the guys there to take a look at my sluggish laptop, but after witnessed that scene ive lost mood and i honestly feel sorry for that guy. I don’t think i can work for that kind of boss if I was him.

Sad to see this completely come to an end for GC purchases, though when they changed it to $4 a quarter it pretty much killed it. The $1,500 in OD rewards I racked up over the past 2 years got me a some new office furniture and some electronics, but it’s nothing that I couldn’t do without. Fun while it lasted…

between two accounts, it was enough for usually for two 12 pks of San Pellegrino Blood Orange soda to keep in the fridge at work for a refreshing afternoon drink. So long!

Gdngit! I just started being a member three days ago. And I was so happy when both my 2x$200 VGCs earned 2%. Grrr

Only one of your $200 purchases earned 2 percent. The other purchase exceeded the $200/quarter cap. Maximum reward per quarter on gift cards is currently $4, soon to be $0.

Ah ok. I get it, so the pending credits of $7.80 (2 x $3.90) for my purchase of 2x$200 VGCs will revert to just $4 when posted?

I think their math goes like this when they calculated the pending rewards:
($200×2)+($6.95×2)-10$ = $403.90
($403.90) – ($6.95×2) x 2% = $7.80 (posting as $3.90 and $3.90 for each $200 VGCs)

The rewards do not post to your credit card. They post to your OM/OD rewards account, if you have one. And if you give the clerk your rewards number or phone number.

I know that. I did not mentioned anything about my cc rewards.
That’s not my credit card. That’s my officedepot/max account in the imgur image and the calculation I stated.

Frankly the 2% on $200 was nothing. Just keep the discounted VGCs coming!

i didn’t know we could earn rewards on the VGCs (except for maybe the activation fee?). Either way, i buy *nothing* at OM/OD except the discounted VGCs, so it’s no great loss.
