[Expired] Office Depot/Max Stores: Buy $300 In Visa Giftcards & Get $15 Instant Discount (11/15-11/21)

The Offer

Check your local Office Depot/Max store for the following deal:

  • Buy $300 in Visa gift cards and get $15 discounted instantly at the register.

The Fine Print

  • Valid 11/15/20 – 11/21/20
  • Limit 1 per customer
  • Discount applied at register

Our Verdict

This offer is being reported by Miletomemories. In the past, these deals are sometimes YMMV, check your local store to see if they are running this. Use INK Cash/Plus for 5x. You’ll pay $12.90/$13.90 in fees, and you’ll end up paying less than face value after the $15 discount. Office Depot/Max also has a similar deal available online (though that one does not count as Office Supply category for bonus category purposes).

I really messed up big this time. I was nervous about sitting on almost $3k OD vgc so last Tuesday i went to Walmart to convert a few into the Walmart visa cards (those work fine for MO at Kroger since they are issued by green dot). Bought 2 ×$500 Walmart vgc and used one to buy a MO at Kroger on Wednesday. Went home that night threw the unused card to my trash can thinking that was the one had been used at Kroger. Coincidently the next morning was my trash pick up day so i took the trash out late Wednesday night (and the garbage man came picked it up early next morning as usual). I didn’t realize the card mix-up until i tried to use the “unused” card at Kroger last night. Since i never registered the Walmart vgc, even though i still have the original receipt, without the card number Walmart told me they couldn’t do anything. So there goes my $500 bucks, in the landfill! ;(

Oh that’s my worst nightmare, sorry you had to experience it. I ran into an issue once where my med payment didn’t credit and had to find the old used card. Got lucky that time that it was still not fully used but then I started to put mine in a bin and keep for several months. I feel horrible for you. 🙁

Lily, call ASAP the number at the back of the “unused” card. The CSR should be able to invalidate the lost card, and perhaps reissue a new one to you.

David Lee That was the first thing i did but they insisted they couldn’t do anything without the full card number or account registration. I threw away the card so obviously i can’t get the number. I remembered last 4 digits but that didn’t help.

The first 4 # usually is 4358, now the question is to figure out the 8 digits in between …

Not really, i just looked at the used card that i mistook with the unused card, the first 4 digits are 4852.

BB reloads at Walmart seem to work fine in my area.
Went two locations and was able to liquidate a $200 VGC at both.

if BB reloads worked is it safe to think loading Serve won’t be a problem ?

Not sure Ron – I don’t have any Serve cards so haven’t tested it personally.

Went to my regular kroger last night trying to liquidate the OD vgc and failed. None of them works, anywhere card or the regula vgc by sunrise. Now I’m stuck with them, only option is organic spending. No more run to OD from now on.

How do the gift cards know if you are buying a money order or a watermelon?

very curious if they will follow up with the MC deal next week. Hoping those cards still work to load BB at WM since they never ask for a PIN like the Visa does.

Just went and bought 2x$200. Clerk said there were no specials going, I still went through with the transaction thinking one would pop up, it didn’t.

OM stores near me have strict 1 per day rule.

sadly this deal is nowhere near the $1000 mc/visa Staples deal that was offered the past weeks. the problem is that i just got match approved for CIU & CIC 75k points/ $7500 spend and no way can reach that amount with regular spend.

Actually I much prefer this restriction. Here’s in Drew Macomber’s VA home town (guess, he’s long gone), where we don’t have any OD/OM anymore, some selfish slug was going to our two Staples locations over the past three weeks+ and (according to multiple CSR’s I’ve interviewed) either a. buying up the ENTIRE supply of mc/gc then vgc each time he came in or 2. at the other, buying TEN before they’d stop him…. (one csr/mgr denies lying to me, but he did change the cover story when he realized I had specific evidence something was quite amiss.) Seems they weren’t enforcing the 5 per customer rule (nor was the computer), and ended up ruining (sic) the deal for the rest of us. Staples, at least here locally will need to rethink this, esp. if the computer isn’t enforcing limits.

By contrast, I’ll head off to another major metro area tomorrow where they have multiple OD/OM locations, and two (not just one) of the cards per day will be just fine. (as by the time I get there, they’re more likely to still have a supply on hand, unlike Staples of late.)

Visit OD/OM twice a day (with different employees because of shifts), and wait for the Staples offer to be back again. Sometimes, when OD/OM are busy, checking out with different cashiers in different lanes helps.

The one by me didn’t have it advertised and only had the variable load gift cards that require payment by cash only to avoid money laundering. Not sure how that works.

Jenny
Jenny (@guest_1091638)

Actually, payment by cash helps those who engage in money-laundering, eg. drug-dealers. The OD/OM staff, including managers, are poorly trained in this regard. The issue they have with credit cards is credit card fraud.

Scott
Scott (@guest_1091673)

Jenny I agree. It didn’t make sense to me that fixed dollar gift cards can be bought with a credit card but the variable load cards can only be purchased with cash. To me that is inviting money laundering.

I had BBB employee tell me I can’t use the Happy Card to buy a $25 Ebay card because “money laundering”. I wish I was joking.
