[Expired] Office Depot/Max: Visa Gift Cards, Save $15 When You Buy $300 [8/25-8/31]

Deal has expired, view more Office Depot/Max deals by clicking here.

The Offer

  • Office Depot/Max stores are offering a $15 instant discount when you buy $300 in Visa gift cards.

The Fine Print

  • Discount applies at register
  • Valid 8/25 – 8/31/19
  • Purchase fees may apply

Our Verdict

Just last week they had this on Mastercard, and this week on Visa. Either purchase two $200 cards or one $200 and one $100. The variable load $20-$500 cards are cash only so won’t work. Normally you can do this deal multiple times in different transactions but YMMV based on cashier.

Nice to see this OM/OD deal return. $15 more than wipes out the activation fees. Make sure to use a credit card that earns at a high rate at office supply stores. Some people have an Amex Offer for $5 off $25 too.

Thanks to my friends Dave and Matt for sharing this one. If anyone has an image, please share and we’ll add it in ([email protected]).

Hit up three different stores in my area yesterday. First two had no issues with multiple transactions. 3rd store asked for ID and credit card and stated they could only process one transaction. Store manager called Chase and said transaction was declined. Received a text fraud alert from Chase which I responded to and they said to try processing the transaction again. Went back into store and manager seemed very put out that I was wanting to purchase the gift cards again. I apologized and made some small talk to try to cheer her up.

INK business, aviator business barclay, CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select

I called all to make cash advance fee to set to be zero, and they all said NO.

My question is do i get CA fee if i try to buy $1000 gift card each?

Is it worth an hour’s drive for this for MSR on ciu then to liquidate?

Probably only if it’s your only way to meet the MSR

It’s not. But it is helpful.

If you are limited to one purchase at OD/OM, even with a 5% card, you are driving an hour to make $20. With a 1.5% card you are only making $5-6 for your time/gas and getting $39X spend towards SUB.

If you are somewhat near a Simon Mall you can make more than that by buying a single $1k gc and buy up to 10 at a time. Alternatively you could buy $500 GC for about $1 through select online portals or at pharmacy stores combined with passive cashback apps.

Adding my own data point: tried loading GreenServe @ DG with a Grocery Everywhere card and it worked fine. Oddly enough, the same Grocery Everywhere card didn’t work at WM, but another one did.

Tried 2 diff stores today and appeared to be no limit. One store manager said he wanted to limit my cards per swipe to 5. I said how about just 2 per swipe. lol

Are all vgc @ office stores $6.95 fees? Thats rough. Ill pay more attention tomorrow.

OD #2 is positioned mere steps from a former Burger King, now Paradise Gentlemen’s Club @ baymeadows and 95. You better believe I could have put those $2 bills per card x 10 cards to better use than vgc fees.

Just use a card with a category bonus at office supply stores: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/best-credit-cards-for-office-supply-purchases/

Visa, Mastercard, and Discover.
Amex is frowning on gift card purchases these days.

Is there any card-linked program working in OfficeMax? Like Dosh, or Drop?
