It’s time for another OfficeMax deal, unfortunately we missed this one earlier because it was not posted in the week flier for whatever reason.

office max $15 off $300 deal

The Fine Print

  • Max limit of 1 per customer, this is hard coded at the register
  • They need to scan the promotion in their book of offers
  • Only applies at OfficeMax, doesn’t work at OfficeDepot [Store locator]
  • $200 gift cards have a fee of $6.95
  • $100 gift cards have a fee of $5.95
  • These gift cards are issued by MetaBank
  • Valid from June 22nd – 28th, 2014

Our Verdict

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like there is any way to stack this promotion as Shopkick & Plink are not partners with Office Max. Your best bet will be to use a card that earns at a high rate on office supply stores. For the purposes of working out how profitable this deal will be we’re going to look at three different scenarios and assume you’re using a card that gets 5% cash back or equivalent:

Two $200 Gift Cards

  • Purchase two x $200 gift cards, total cost will be $398.9 ($400 in gift cards, $13.9 in fees & $15 instant discount)
  • Earn $19.945 in credit card rewards
  • Total profit of $21.045

One $100 Gift Card & One $200 Gift Card

  • Purchase one x $200 gift card and one x $100 gift card, total cost will be $297.9 ($300 in gift cards, $12.9 in fees & $15 instant discount)
  • Earn $14.895 in credit card rewards
  • Total profit of $16.995

Three $100 Gift Cards

  • Purchase three x $100 gift cards, total cost will be $302.85 ($300 in gift cards, $17.85 in fees & $15 instant discount)
  • Earn $15.1425 in credit card rewards
  • Total profit of $12.2925

As you can see the most profitable way to complete this deal will be the two $200 gift card method, unfortunately everybody has the same idea and it’s often not possible to find any $200 gift cards. They sometimes have additional cards that are in the middle of the gift card rack (you’ll need to ask a manager to check for you) but often people have hidden them behind other cards as well. You can also try to get this promotion multiple times, but it’s unlikely to work with the same cashier. You can use the normal unload methods to get rid of these cards.

What are some of the normal unload methods? Is there an easy way to get turn these gift cards to cash?

I tried search for “unload methods” in this blog, but wasn’t able to find anything concrete.

Thanks in advance!
